This story has been updated to reflect information released after the story went to print.

A structure fire has killed two people in the Town of Moreau.

The fire occurred at 270 Old Saratoga Road in the Town of Moreau. Crews were dispatched to the scene around 11:00 p.m. on the night of June 2 after a passerby saw the fire and called 911, according to the South Glens Falls Fire Company.

The passerby reported that the fire was in the rear of the residence and that they were unable to make contact with the occupants of the building, despite multiple attempts.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office was first on scene and were able to remove one occupant from the building, the fire Company said. Neighbors advised first responders that there was still one occupant unaccounted for. The fire company said that between the time of dispatch and arrival on scene, the fire spread rapidly and consumed nearly the entire structure.

Firefighters were able to locate the second victim and removed them from the structure. Both occupants died of their injures and were pronounced dead at the scene.

During the course of operations, one firefighter was injured and is receiving treatment at Glens Falls Hospitals. They are in stable condition.

Crews were on scene until 10:30 a.m. on June 3. Responding agencies include the Greenfield Fire District, Gansevoort Fire Department, Wilton Fire Department, Corinth Fire Department, West Glens Falls Fire, South Glens Falls Fire Company Auxiliary, Moreau EMS, Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police and National Grid. In addition, the Hudson Falls Fire Department covered any additional calls in South Glens Falls while the incident was ongoing.

Investigation into the fire is on going and is being handled by both Saratoga County Fire Investigators and New York State Fire Investigators.
