Frances Tang graduated from Skidmore College in 1961, after having immigrated from China. In 1992, the same year her daughter Kristen graduated from Skidmore College, Tang passed away from cancer. To honor his late wife, Oscar Tang made a substantial contribution to help the museum come to fruition in 2000. The inaugural Frances Day was in 2014 which honors her legacy of creativity and philanthropy with a day of free activities for the whole community.
