Providence Teen arrested for Arson at Milton Hannaford

A Providence teen is facing felony charges after he allegedly set fire to a Hannaford bathroom in the Town of Milton.

Samuel Carter, 18 of Providence was arrested by the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony 2nd degree arson, misdemeanor petit larceny, 4th degree criminal mischief, and 4th degree criminal possession of a weapon.

According to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Carter is alleged to have stolen a quart of oil from the store, poured it onto the floor of a restroom and cardboard box, then set it on fire. The fire was put out prior to arrival of the Rock City Falls Fire Department, and no injuries were reported.

Carter is also alleged to have stolen a knife from the Allerdice Hardware store next door to the Hannaford and was in possession of another knife. Carter was arraigned in the Milton Town Court and remanded to the Saratoga County jail pending further proceedings.

“We were very fortunate that the fire was extinguished quickly and did not spread,” Sheriff Jeffrey R. Brown said. “Our deputies did an outstanding job dealing with an armed suspect who had just started a fire and who was intent upon harming anyone who approached him. I am truly grateful that no one was injured.”
