Congregation Shaara Tfille to show “Sublet” Film

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Congregation Shaara Tfille and The Jewish Community Center of Saratoga Springs present the film Sublet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 28 as part of the 2023 Saratoga Jewish Cultural Festival. The presentation is in celebration of LGBTQ National Pride Month.

Sublet is a 2020 Israeli-American romantic comedy-drama about Michael, a gay New York Times travel writer, who travels to Tel Aviv after suffering a personal tragedy. He finds that the energy of the city and his relationship with Tomer, a younger man, with a life philosophy that clashes with his own, puts their different lives into perspective. It is a moving film about missed opportunities and the need to move forward. This film contains explicit, adult content, and children under 17 will not be admitted without a parent or guardian.

There is a $5 admission charge that also includes light refreshments. RSVP to likebertrand518@gmail.com and call Congregation Shaara Tfille at 518-584-2370 for additional information. The film will be screened at Congregation Shaara Tfille, 84 Weibel Ave.

Following the film showing there will be a Q&A opportunity with the film’s director, Eytan Fox, who will live stream from New York City, as well as a discussion with Libby Post, a long-time LGBTQ activist and devoted member of Congregation Ohav Shalom.

Jonathan Richman to Perform at The Egg

ALBANY — The Egg has announced that Jonathan Richman will perform on Sunday, Oct. 15 as part of the American Roots & Branches concert series.

A singer and songwriter who has stubbornly (and joyfully) followed his muse in a career that began in the early ’70s as leader of the punk rock band Modern Lovers, Richman‘s solo career as an acoustic balladeer, is known for passionate tunes in Spanish as often as in English and purposefully naive music that revels in a childlike love of the world around him. Jonathan performs his one-of-a-kind songs accompanied by Tommy Larkins on the drums.

Tickets are $34.50 and are available on line at www.theegg.org or by telephone at 518-473-1845.

The show previews on June 28, opens June 29, and runs through July 8 at the Charles R. Wood Theater in Glens Falls.
