Fish Fry Fridays

The Fish Creek Rod and Gun Club, located at 123 NY-32, Victory Mills, Friday Night Fish Fry will be back for 2023. It will start January 13 and run through April 7. Xanadu The Musical

Cat and Dog Adoption Clinic

Saratoga History Happy Hour

January 15 at 6 p.m.  Real Life Crime is the focus with Waterford Historian Russ VanDervoort and SCHC Director of Education Anne Clothier. These true crime stories prove that sometimes real life is a lot darker than fiction. This is an SCHC Member Event.  The event will include questions and answers and an opportunity to participate in a trivia contest. Volunteer Fair

The Saratoga Senior Center, located at 5 Williams St., Saratoga Springs, will be hosting a Volunteer Fair on Tuesday, January 17 from 1 – 3 p.m. Interested volunteers are welcome to come to the Center and learn more. Our Volunteer Coordinator will speak about the various opportunities. Meet with current volunteers to learn more about specific areas. Volunteers are active at the Center, helping with events, computer assistance, mailings, van driving, and more. Community Connections volunteers who go out in the community. The Art of Puppetry with Lita Carbone

Our future puppeteers will learn how to develop characters and explore how to make a puppet come to life for an audience. Two sessions: Ages 9-11 on January 21 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Ages 12-18 on February 4 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. $50 class fee includes materials required to make your own puppet. Saratoga Winterfest 5K Snowshoe Run/Walk

To be held on Sunday, February 5 at 11 a.m. in the Saratoga Spa State Park. Winterfest will be held outdoors opposite the Administration Building. Bathrooms in Wired Coffee Shop.  Camp Saratoga 8k Snowshoe Race will be held on Saturday, February 11 at the Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park at 10:30 a.m. May have an indoor facility for this one depending on COVID. February Break Drama Camp with Elyse Young

Town of Malta Parks and Recreation Department announces February Break Drama Camp for ages 10-15 will run Tuesday, February 21 through Friday, February 24 from10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The camp will be taught by Malta’s Artistic Director Elyse Young and will include acting skills, vocal techniques, theater games, crafts, rehearsals and performance of a short play. Camp and performance will take place at the Malta Community Center, One Bayberry Drive, Malta. Poetry Reading

On Wednesday, January 4, Caffè Lena will present a poetry reading by Sparrow, An open mic poetry reading will follow. Kids Day at the Saratoga Auto Museum

Southern Saratoga Art Society Exhibits

Exhibits at two locations during January and February.  Clifton Park Senior Community Center Gallery, 6 Clifton Commons Ct., in Clifton Park will be featuring the artwork of Valerie Woodward and Valerie Wolf. These unique artists will feature an eclectic mix of artwork and use of vibrant colors in landscapes, still-life, paint pouring, realism to abstract, using acrylics, watercolor, pen, and watercolor pencil collages.  The Mechanicville Library, 190 N. Light in the Darkness

A service of Comfort & Home for the longest night of the year. Wednesday, December 21, at 7 p.m. Christmas can be a painful time. The constant, inescapable refrain about the happiness of the season reminds many people of what they have lost or have never had. Broken or lost relationships, employment and financial insecurity, poor health, depression–all of these can be more difficult as the nights lengthen and the cold intrudes. Recognizing that Christ came to comfort those who struggle with sadness and pain, First Presbyterian Church will host a community service of scripture, prayer, music, and candle lighting to invite God’s Word to shine light into our darkness. Everyone, regardless of church background (or no religious affiliation) is welcome. The church is located at 22 West High St., Ballston Spa.

Annual Holiday Cookie Sale

Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting 

On Friday, December 2 the Village of Ballston Spa will become a winter wonderland. The parade steps-off on the north side of Milton Avenue at 6:30 p.m. and proceeds to West High Street. Following the parade, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will arrive on the back of an Eagle-Matt Lee Fire Company truck to light the tree in Wiswall Park. The parade will once again spotlight the Toys for Tots campaign, in partnership with the Ballston Spa Community Emergency Corps, Saratoga County Sheriff Department and the U.S. Marine Corps. Volunteers from these organizations will be on hand to collect donations of new, unwrapped toys from spectators along the parade route as well as at the tree lighting.

The Stretch Your Budget Christmas Sale

Breakfast with Santa ?

After a two-year pause, Breakfast with Santa returns this year. There are three Breakfasts with Santa on Saturday, December 3: the first scheduled for 8:30-9:30 a.m., then 10-11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.; Sundaes with Santa follows from 1-2 p.m. Tickets are $10 each. Children 2 and under are free. Adults must accompany children. Tickets include either the breakfast or sundae, a tour of the Festival of Trees, a photo with Santa and access to a variety of children’s activities for $1 per ticket. Activities include cookie decorating, face painting, manicures, ornament making, picture frame creating and letters to Santa. There will also be a Holiday Shop with gifts for purchase. Auditions for Xanadu

Seeking performers ages 18 – 50. Xanadu is a hilarious spoof on one of Hollywood’s worst films. This production is campy and filled with lots of fun. Character acting is essential! Certain characters require additional special skills. Rehearsals are November 26 from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. at our studio at 615 Maple Ave., Saratoga Springs. Performers will be seen in the order they arrive and should prepare approximately 16 to 32 bars in the style of the show. Artisan Market – Craft Vendors Wanted

The Juried Artisan Market is held at Saratoga County History Center at Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Ave Ballston Spa. The market is open to the public from Saturday, November 26 through Saturday, December 24 and will be staffed by museum employees. SCHC @ Brookside Museum handles all sales tax and pays vendors 60% of the sale price of their items. Booth fees are $30 for a 4’x4’ area and $45 for a 4’x6’ area. A limited number of booths with electricity are available for an additional $10 per booth. Vendors must provide a typed (preferably digital) inventory list. Vendors are responsible for their booth set up; tables and shelving will not be provided by SCHC @ Brookside Museum. The Southern Saratoga Art Society Meeting

Monday, November 28, 6:30 p.m., and have a special art demonstration hosted by the Blooming Artist Gallery, 675 Grooms Road Clifton Park., Rexford Landing Plaza. Featured artist will be Ilona Zabolotna demonstrating a “Coffee Painting” using her recently developed unique technique of brewed expresso as a medium. Her style flows much like watercolor and champions combining refined detail with pouring coffee and freely expressive splatter.  Her portraits are full of emotions with knowledge of anatomy. The demonstration is open to the public and made possible by Saratoga Arts through the Community Arts Regrant Program, funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. Giving Tuesday 

As a good faith effort, Ballston Spa Public Library (BSPL) will hold a special Giving Tuesday promotional for patrons on Tuesday, November 29. This is a one-day event. If a patron has any overdue items at home BSPL will waive any fines that is associated with that item. Any previous overdue fines or replacement fines do not qualify. The Town of Clifton Park Lobby, 1 Town Hall Plaza, Clifton Park will feature artist Faith Weldon during the months of November and December. The Clifton Park Senior Community Center Gallery, 6 Clifton Common Ct., Clifton Park will be hosting members in a show called “Seasons” showcasing the elegance of Spring, the passion of Summer, the subtlety of Autumn and the harshness of Winter during the months of November and December. Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting

Milton Ave., Ballston Spa | 6:30 p.m. The Village of Ballston Spa will soon become a winter wonderland. The parade steps-off on the north side of Milton Avenue and proceeds to West High Street. Following the parade, Mr. and Mrs. Claus will arrive on the back of an Eagle-Matt Lee Fire Company truck to light the tree in Wiswall Park. The parade will once again spotlight the Toys for Tots campaign, in partnership with the Ballston Spa Community Emergency Corps, Saratoga County Sheriff Department and the U.S. Marine Corps. Volunteers from these organizations will be on hand to collect donations of new, unwrapped toys from spectators along the parade route as well as at the tree lighting.

She Kills Monsters 

For the first time, SCT is producing a play on our MainStage, and we couldn’t be more excited about it! This is a story of high schooler Agnes Evans as she deals with the death of her younger sister, Tilly. When Agnes stumbles upon Tilly’s Dungeons & Dragons notebook, she finds herself catapulted into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was her sister’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and ’90s pop culture, acclaimed playwright Qui Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within us all. Artisan Market – Craft Vendors Wanted

The Juried Artisan Market is held at Saratoga County History Center at Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Ave Ballston Spa. The market is open to the public from Saturday, November 26 through Saturday, December 24 and will be staffed by museum employees. SCHC @ Brookside Museum handles all sales tax and pays vendors 60% of the sale price of their items. Booth fees are $30 for a 4’x4’ area and $45 for a 4’x6’ area. A limited number of booths with electricity are available for an additional $10 per booth. Vendors must provide a typed (preferably digital) inventory list. Vendors are responsible for their booth set up; tables and shelving will not be provided by SCHC @ Brookside Museum. Artist Talk and Demonstration

Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway, presents an Artist Talk and Demonstration November 12 at Noon. Our current Featured Artist, Tari Lee Sykes, will talk about each of her Chinese scroll paintings now on display. She will discuss the meaning behind the subjects, how she learned to do them, explain the materials used, answer questions, and give a demonstration on use of the inks, brushes, etc. She’ll have materials available for attendees to try the Chinese Painting technique. The Saratoga County History Center is partnering with DeCrescente Distributing Company to bring you the Saratoga Chip and Beer Festival on Saturday, November 12, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Avenue, Ballston Spa., featuring old-time musicians John Kirk and Trish Miller. They will bring their traditional “fiery fiddle tunes” and other folk gems rooted in American traditions to the festival. The duo complements our beautiful exhibit that tells the many stories behind the chip, and it’s natural to partner with DeCrescente, which not only distributes local craft beer and Saratoga Chips but is a historic fourth-generation Saratoga County business. More Saratoga County Stories

The second volume of stories published by the Saratoga County History Center (SCHC) covers various topics related to the history of Saratoga County. This compilation of 66 articles by 33 authors, originally published weekly by the Saratoga County History Roundtable, draws on the knowledge and experiences of local historians and “history buffs,” some of which have only recently taken up the pen to share their stories. The book will be released and available for sale at Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Avenue, Ballston Spa, on Sunday, November 13, from 2-4 p.m. where guests can talk with the authors and obtain signed copies of the book. Polka Dance 

Knights of Columbus Council #246 will be hosting a Polka Dance on Sunday, November 13, from 2-6 p.m. to raise funds for homeless veterans. The cost will be $20, payable at the door. Saratoga Winter Club’s Saratoga Cup Speedskating Meet 

The Saratoga Winter Club will hold the annual Saratoga Cup and NorthEast Series I Short Track Speedskating Meet on Saturday, November 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Weibel Avenue Saratoga Springs Ice Rink. Admission is free and open to the public. Speedskaters from the Capital District as well as from Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey and beyond will compete at this East Coast Tradition. Volunteers are still needed to help with off-ice positions including timers and judges. Saratoga Springs Youth Ballet Nutcracker Tea

Saratoga Springs Youth Ballet First Nutcracker Tea to be held Sunday, November 20 at historic Canfield Casino at 2 p.m. for a whimsical afternoon with tea, delicious treats, dancing, and holiday fun. Children and families will enjoy holiday shopping from local vendors, basket raffle and silent auction. Delight in live performances from the Nutcracker Suite along with a reading of The Nutcracker Story. Don’t forget to take your photo with Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy! Bus Trip to Villa Roma 

The Olde Saratoga Seniors are hosting a bus trip to Villa Roma in Calicoon, NY on Wednesday, November 30. It will be a lunch and a Holliday Motown Tribute. Jane Austen Birthday Tea

Hosted by the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA)-New York Capital Region on Sunday, December 11, Inn at Saratoga, 231 Broadway, Saratoga Springs, 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. Local author Heather Moll will discuss her latest novel, An appearance of Goodness, a murder mystery set at Pemberley. The mystery theme will continue with a discussion of the many Jane Austen mystery series.
