This teacher received TWO nominations!

#1 Mr. Herrington deserves the title of Teacher of the Year because he is the funniest teacher and he makes learning fun.

He makes an extremely good play for the 5th grade class. For his 1st grade students he makes awesome plays, too. He gave everybody a dollar to do something nice for someone. I learned to help others. When Mr. Herrington was my teacher, I did not want a snow day EVER! - Sam, second grader (Dictated by Sam and typed by his mother.)

#2 Mr. Herrington is a teacher my son will remember for life. He inspired my child and his classmates in ways too numerous to detail. He has a gift for connecting with the students and tapping into their individual talents. He truly cares about every child who enters his classroom, and he works hard to make the first grade experience as rewarding as possible. As a first grade student, my son participated in two class plays. These class projects boosted his confidence and public speaking skills. Mr. Herrington had other creative teaching methods. The students did self-assessments on their skills such as the ability to solve a math problem. The students were then allowed to volunteer to teach their classmates a way to solve the math problem. This approach allowed the students to practice speaking in front of a group and to be confident about the skills and knowledge. Sometimes students gave the wrong answer, and that also taught valuable life lessons. Students learned that is it was OK to take risks and make mistakes in front of peers. The classmates learned to support their peers. Mr. Herrington definitely makes learning fun. I'm not the only parent who wants to be a student in Mr. Herrington's class! – a mom
