Lisa Hart is the instructor for the New Visions Health Careers Exploration Program through BOCES.
She is one of the best teachers that I have ever had because she pushes her students to their greatest potential. New Visions allows students from across Saratoga County to experience the medical field in a way that no other high school student is able to. We have the opportunity to do clinical rotations at Saratoga Hospital and other area doctors’ offices in order to find a career in the medical field that is appealing to us. We get the chance to learn from real health professionals in their fields and have the opportunity to witness surgeries, examinations, and other testing done in the medical field. Mrs. Hart chooses 14 students each year to do this program, making it very selective and excellent for the college application. In class we learn anatomy and physiology, medical law and government, economics, English, and medical terminology. What makes Mrs. Hart one of the best teachers is the fact that she wants every student to do their best. At the beginning of the year, she pushes her students to do a high volume of work in a short amount of time. This helps us to learn time management and organization, which helps in preparation for college. In learning all of this material, she also tries to vary the way we learn through discussions, projects, and medically related films and texts that relate to what we are learning at that moment. One of the best things that Mrs. Hart does is bring her dog, Jessie, to the class. Jessie is almost like therapy to New Visions students because with the volume of work we must accomplish, she helps keep the edge off on a very busy day. I think Mrs. Hart deserves “teacher of the year” because she really does so much for her students. The amount of work that she does to prepare her students for the medical field and college is truly remarkable and I don't think she gets enough recognition for it. Mrs. Hart is a great teacher and I will never forget the things I learned in the New Visions program. –Anne {jvotesystem poll=|11|}
