Amalia Marie (Barone) Cannizzo

NISKAYUNA, NY- Amalia Marie (Barone) Cannizzo, “Amy”, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was 84. Born January 29, 1942, in Schenectady, she was the only child of the late D. James and Annie Marie Barone.
Amy met the love of her life, Frank at her favorite place in the whole world – Caroga Lake. Their more than 63 years of marriage brought the large, loud, loving family both of them (being only children) dreamed of. Family was everything to Amy, and everyone knew how much they meant to her. Not quiet about expressing her love – we all knew any sadness or pain we felt could be fixed with her rocking us listening to her heart saying, “I Love You, I Love You…” Although physically she can’t hold us now, we can still hear her heart in the birds chirping, the wind blowing, and the waves of West Caroga crashing on the beach.
When her kids were older, Amy went back to school to become a nurse; first, receiving her LPN through BOCES, then continuing on to Maria College to get her Associates in Nursing, and becoming a Registered Nurse. She then worked as an LPN instructor at BOCES, retiring in 2018.
Anyone who knew her, knew she had a heart of gold, and how generous she was. She made great friendships everywhere – at places most people consider a chore going to. Bringing them homemade jelly and guanti at Christmas time and taking the time to get to know and care for them all.
Amy loved her romance novels, Irish Setters, going to the ballet, the Saratoga Racetrack, and to laugh and sing. She made everyone’s life a little brighter. Her kindness was infectious, because of her this world is a better place.
Amy is predeceased by her parents.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Frank Cannizzo; children Debbie (Danny) DeCelle, Tom (Edie) Cannizzo, Kim (Brad) DeNovio, and Mike (Jill) Cannizzo; her grandchildren Nick (Meredith) DeCelle, Stephanie (Eric) Nelson, TJ Cannizzo, Jen (Jim) Ambrose, Emily (Jesse) Rose, Matt DeNovio, McCauley Cannizzo, Mikey (Jenn) Cannizzo, and Kyle Cannizzo (Maria Walker); and her great grandchildren Cecilia and Natalie Amalia DeCelle, Daniella and Edward Nelson, Dallas Carter Kausha, Evan and Ava Ambrose, Jude and Freya Rose, and Luca Cannizzo. She will also be missed by many cousins, friends, students, and those who became family to her over the years.
Amy’s family would like to extend a special thank you to those who took such wonderful care of her – Dee, Angela, Tammy, Sara, Alyssa, and Tracie.
