Saratoga Festival of Trees
Saratoga Springs City Center, 522 Broadway, Saratoga Springs | 2 – 6 p.m.

Catholic Charities of Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties invites the local community to unwrap the magic of the holiday season at their 25th annual fundraiser. With COVID-19 precautions in place, the Festival will once again showcase beautifully decorated trees, wreaths and other holiday and gift items for purchase. Festival proceeds will benefit the programs of Catholic Charities of Saratoga, Warren and Washington Counties. New this year, the community will also be able to view and purchase trees online. Remaining days and hours are Saturday, December 5, Noon – 6 p.m. and Sunday, December 6, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Tickets are $8 per person, $5 for seniors, $3 for ages 10-18, and free for anyone 10 and under when accompanied by an adult. Everyone will be asked to wear their masks and socially distance, with limited numbers safely allowed in the Display Room at one time. For more information, please call 518-587-5000.

Takeout Roast Beef Dinner Fundraiser
Knights of Columbus, 50 Pine Rd., Saratoga Springs | 5 – 7:30 p.m. 

Meals will include 8 oz. each of tender roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy, a vegetable, salad, and rolls for $15 each.  Last chance to order will be the day of the event from 1 – 4 p.m. or until we run out.  To place your order or for questions, please call 518-584-8547.  Thank you for your continued support of all our events, which help us to continue our work in the community.

Holiday Parade and Tree Lighting
Wiswall Park, Ballston Spa | 6 – 6:30 p.m.

The Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association is making every effort to keep the holiday spirit alive even if COVID-19 restrictions to large gatherings require a different approach to the celebrations.  Santa will light the village Christmas tree from the bucket of a fire truck. The tree lighting will be live streamed on the BSBPA Facebook Page. For those who may choose to come to the park, NYS COVID-19 social distancing and mask requirements will be followed. Following the tree lighting, residents should be sure to peek out their front windows or stand at the end of their driveways as Santa will parade through neighborhoods in the village, along with the Ballston Spa Police and Fire Departments and Community Emergency Corps’ ambulance collecting Toys for Tots. The approximate route and times will be posted closer to the parade date on the BSBPA Facebook Page.

Christmas in the Country

Christmas in the Country is a group of artisans who get together every year for a Christmas in the Country tour of their homes and studios. They are primarily located in Fort Ann and Kingsbury. Participants will have Christmas tree signs in front of their houses; those who are not on the official list but are still participating will have snowman signs. Take a Walk in the Park with History

Catch a glimpse of Santa in your neighborhood as he travels through Saratoga Springs atop a tower ladder fire truck provided by King Enterprises. Craft and Garage Sale

Ponies, Pumpkins and Pies

The community is invited to celebrate this beautiful time of year in Saratoga with an afternoon of Ponies, Pumpkins and Pies on a farm tour experience for the whole family. The inaugural event is a collaboration between the Saratoga-based Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and Pitney Meadows Community Farm. Guests will enjoy a short Sunday drive around a winding pasture path full of ponies and preserved farmland. All guests must register in advance and remain in their cars throughout the event. The cost is $10 per car with the option to pre-order local pies and pumpkins.  Attendees are encouraged to add to the festive atmosphere by dressing in costume and each child will receive a goodie bag. Wellspring’s Annual Pooch Parade

In the interest of keeping our community safe (pets included), Wellspring is hosting our annual Pooch Parade virtually this year. This annual event raises awareness and funds for Wellspring’s Safe Pet Partnership Program, which assists victims of domestic violence by providing safe, temporary placement of family pets through a network of volunteer pet “foster homes” while our clients transition to safe housing.  This year, instead of gathering to parade around Congress Park we are inviting community members and their pooches to register online with Wellspring and then plan a walk around their neighborhood, park, home – wherever works! – sometime on October 16, 17, or 18. Genealogy Program
Dr. Thomas W. Jones will deliver a one-hour program via Zoom that will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 17. The topic will be “Out-of-State Workarounds for In-State Record Shortages.” It features the case study of Thomas Greenfield, a man who owned no land, and left no record of heirs. Dr. Jones will take viewers through the reconstruction of Thomas Greenfield’s family—two wives and 18 children—from direct and indirect evidence in DNA and in common and obscure records from national to local levels, mostly from states where Thomas never lived. Fall Canine Training Classes
4-H Training Center, 556 Middle Line Rd., Ballston Spa | Afternoon class

This program is open to youth enrolled in Saratoga County 4-H, ages 12-18. This course offers youth canine handlers of all ages and training levels the opportunity to learn about positive reinforcement techniques to better their canine and handler team. Each handler will evaluate goals and objectives to work on for five consecutive weeks. The cost for all five sessions is $25.  Dogs must be at least six months old and have current vaccinations for distemper and rabies.  Send proof with registration. Cow Plop Bingo

Schuyler Hose Company will be hosting this fundraiser. There will be an area of 400 squares fenced off at Fort Hardy Park. Whoever has the lucky square where the cow makes its plop will win $500 and $250 where the calf plops. International Overdose Awareness Day

At 5:30 p.m. there will be a free Narcan training, followed by a candlelight vigil. At 7 p.m. friends who have lost loved ones to overdose can participate in lighting a candle in remembrance.  Participants are encouraged to bring a photo or token of their loved one to place on our memory board.  All attendees will have an opportunity, should they choose, to share the name aloud of a loved one they would like to have remembered.  At the conclusion of the vigil, there will be resources available on local addiction recovery services. The vigil will also be streamed on Facebook on the Healing Springs Recovery Center page at www.facebook.com/HealingSpringsRCOC, for those who cannot attend in person.
