Frog Watch with Saratoga Springs Public Library

Spring Paper Shredding Day

Briggs Cemetery Association Annual Meeting

Briggs Cemetery, Brookline Road, Town of Ballston | 11 a.m. A business meeting and election of officers and trustees will be held. All lot owners and interested people are invited to attend. Heritage Hunters Genealogy and Local History

Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St., Schuylerville | 1 p.m. “The Knox Train” will be presented by David Peck, president of Heritage Hunters. Enjoy a trip to all the markers for Colonel Henry Knox’s 1776 artillery train from Ticonderoga toward Boston. Colonel Knox’s efforts doubled the weapons available to the Continental Army, made the victory at Dorchester Heights possible, and helped force the British out of Boston. Community Work Day 

Spa State Park Office Building, 19 Roosevelt Dr., Saratoga Springs | 1 – 3 p.m. Trash Pick Up or Invasive Species Removal. Trash Pick Up volunteers meet at 19 Roosevelt Dr., Invasive Species Removal meet at Hemlock Trail on Crescent Ave. (close to the Saratoga Casino side entrance). Town of Greenfield Historical Society Meeting

Intercut Realities Opening Reception

Saratoga Arts Main and Atrium Galleries, 320 Broadway, Saratoga Springs | 6 – 8 p.m. Intercut Realities explores collage as a method of combining disparate materials into a unified whole. Through both physical and digital collage techniques, augmented with layers of painting and drawing, the artworks in the exhibition fabricate narratives, challenge perspectives, and forge new visual connections. Featuring artists Benj Gleeksman, Alison Bachorik, Avery Hartranft, and Emily Tironi, the exhibition invites viewers into each of their personal tactile worlds of collage.

Special Exhibit: America 250 Tapestry Project

The Van Schaick Mansion, 1 Van Schaick Ave., Cohoes | 1 – 4 p.m. This event marks the final opportunity to view the New York State panel, beautifully stitched by the Capital District Embroiderer’s Guild of America as part of the America 250 Tapestry Project, before it departs for Williamsburg, Virginia. Meet the talented stitchers and witness firsthand the intricate work they have created. Admission to the mansion grounds and cemetery is free. Guided tours of the historic mansion are scheduled for 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to join a tour for a $5 donation, which supports the preservation of this important site.

Family Saturday

Tang Museum, Payne Room, Skidmore College, 815 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs | 2 – 3:30 p.m. Family Saturday programs foster multigenerational creative cooperation through looking at artwork, discussing it, and engaging in a hands-on art-making activity. Programs run from 2-3:30 pm and include a tour of selected works. All programs are free and open to the public, and suitable for children age 5 and older, accompanied by their adult companions. No registration required; supplies provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ballston Area Seniors Monthly Dance

Tang Guide Tour with Gus Hempstead ’26

Tang Museum Atrium, Skidmore College, 815 N. Broadway, Saratoga Springs | 2 p.m. Join for a tour of the Museum and current exhibitions with Tang Guide Gus Hempstead ’26. This event is open to the public, and visitors are invited to stay after the tour and look around the galleries.  Weekly tours are given by Tang Guides, many of whom are Skidmore College students, who are trained gallery ambassadors and tour guides. Through this program, they are introduced to the Tang and the museum world, trained to give tours, and gain valuable real-world experiences interacting with visitors.

Film and Discussion: Odette

Love Canal 2: A Landfill Dilemma in Nassau NY –

Benjamin Franklin Slept Here

Champlain Canal Region Gateway Visitors Center, 30 Ferry St, Schuylerville | 7 p.m. Saratoga 250 hosts a 250th anniversary program on Benjamin Franklin’s 1776 journey through the region. At age 70, Franklin traveled north in a failed effort to bring Canada into the Revolution, a mission that shaped later success in France. Town Historian Sean Kelleher will present the program. Free and open to the public. All ages and abilities are welcome. The Champlain Canal Region Gateway Visitor Center is accessible by wheelchairs. Experts Next Door: Tree by Tree: Saving North America’s Eastern Forests

Live on Zoom, 7 – 8 p.m. For decades, the forests of Eastern North America have faced pathogen and insect pests that have functionally removed tree species from the landscape. This talk will discuss the ecological roles that trees play, the biology of the threats faced, and the approaches that may remediate the problems. Scott Meiners is a Plant Ecologist with a primary research focus on plant community dynamics. He is a Professor at Eastern Illinois University conducting research and training graduate and undergraduate researchers. At home, Scott is a tree collector, growing chestnuts, paw paws and producing maple syrup.

A Thousand, Thousand Slimy Things, with Dr. Christopher Pastore

On Saturday, April 25, Sustainable Saratoga’s Urban Forestry Project will hold its 15th TREE TOGA planting event, adding 40 large-growing shade trees to the Saratoga Springs urban forest and bringing the total number of trees planted to nearly 500. Volunteer Tree Planters are needed from 9 am – noon. This fun, family-friendly event is open to all. As a city resident, you can apply for a 4’ x 8’ plot at the Wesley community campus. It’s a great time and a great garden. The Community Garden has individual raised planting beds. Experts Next Door: African American Women and Expatriate Life in Independent Senegal with Julia Woods 

Live on Zoom | 7 p.m. This presentation shares Sylvia’s story as an African American woman in independent Senegal’s cosmopolitan capital city of Dakar. She taught comparative French and African literatures, Black feminism, and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade at the large public university in Dakar before many American universities had such classes. While Sylvia’s story is singular in its uniqueness, she fostered a community of numerous other African American female expatriates in Senegal, many of whom did important work to bring both sides of the Atlantic together through professional life, academia, and kinship. The Windermere Children Zoom Program 

7 p.m. Saratoga Jewish Community Arts, with a generous grant from the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York and the sponsorship of Temple Sinai of Saratoga Springs, presents a panel discussion of the PBS drama, The Windermere Children. Several books and films have chronicled the 10,000 children rescued out of Europe during World War II on what became known as Kindertransport, the trains that carried the children to safety in Great Britain. The Addams Family Musical

Women of the Saratoga Campaign

Many know the story of British General John Burgoyne’s Surrender to the Americans after the Battles of Saratoga in 1777. Experts Next Door: American Women and Expatriate Life in Interwar Paris

Henry Knox: Resolve Forged by Revolution

The Tubman Story: Harriet’s Fight for Human Rights

The Keeper

Like many major rivers, the Hudson – often called America’s First River and the birthplace of the American environmental movement – was heavily used and polluted as populations grew. For nearly 30 years, its “eyes on the river”, John Lipscomb, has led efforts to fight contamination, joining a global network of more than 300 “Riverkeepers” dedicated to protecting waterways worldwide.

This month we will see the second in the series of movie clips recorded by Galway High School faculty, who formed the Galway Movie Club in 1937.  The movie clips are from the 1930’s and 40’s, digitized by the Galway Preservation Society in the last year.  Featured in this film are scenes of Galway Lake, early school scenes and servicemen from the Village on furlough from World War II and how the Village supported the war.  A short film produced by Galway High School students titled Haunted Hunters is also included. Getting Your Garden Started

Get ready for spring!  The Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway, is hosting “Getting Your Garden Started” on Thursday, March 5th from 6-7 pm.  Learn the basics of how to create a successful garden, and “borrow” seeds to get started.  Presented by Madison Blodgett, Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Community Horticulture Educator.  Seeds for the library’s annual Seed Library are generously provided by CCE.  The class is free, but registration is requested by calling 518-882-6385.

Experts Next Door: American Women and Expatriate Life in Interwar Paris with Caitlin O’Keefe 

Live on Zoom | 7 p.m. This discussion will consider an important segment of expatriates to Paris post-WWI: American women. What drove so many American women out of their own country after 1918, and what did they hope to find in Paris? To what extent did American women who felt constrained and limited by life at home find freedom in expatriation? Through tracing the lives of women such as the Harlem Renaissance poet Gwendolyn Bennett, and the founder of the Shakespeare and Company bookstore, Sylvia Beach, this presentation will explore the gendered experience of expatriation in this new, modern era of mobility. Saratoga Senior Center Cabin Fever Open House

Genealogy and Local History

Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St., Schuylerville | 1 p.m. Heritage Hunters will meet. The Town of Malta historian, Tom Williams, will talk about Katherine Anne Porter, winner of a Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award. She was once an artist at Yaddo and owned a home in Malta. Porter was most famous for her novel Ship of Fools. Tom will follow up his presentation with a discussion on Malta resources available for research. Silent Hunters

Sounds in Winter: A Touch of Woodwinds

Annual Sweetheart Dinner Dance

Saratoga Wilton Elks Lodge #161, 1 Elks Lane, Saratoga Springs 5:30 – 11 p.m. The popular band Skippy and the Pistons will be our entertainment for the night. Cocktails from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and entertainment from 8 – 11 p.m. There will be raffle baskets. Town of Greenfield Historical Society Meeting

Community Center, 25 Wilton Road, Greenfield Center | 7 p.m.  The speaker, Chris Carola, will share a Civil War presentation on the 77th Regiment, mustered in Saratoga Springs in late 1861, fought all the way through to Appomattox. Soldiers were from Saratoga, Fulton and Essex counties, including towns of Galway, Charlton, Gloversville, etc. Admission is free. All are welcome.
