4th Annual Adirondack Retro Nerdfest 

What was once nerdy is cool again at Adirondack Retro Nerdfest. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 4, in SUNY Adirondack’s Northwest Bay Conference Center in Adirondack Hall. This celebration of old-school pop culture is sponsored by Adirondack Broadcast Association and includes a full day of fun featuring free-play arcade games and pinball, and deejays spinning vinyl. Vendors will offer such wares as records, comic books, cards, collectibles, fan art and more. SUNY Adirondack’s Gaming Club will host a “Super Smash Brothers” tournament. The college’s Theater Club will offer a cosplay costume contest. The Culinary Arts Club will offer delicious snacks.

Admission is $5 for the public and free for SUNY Adirondack students with ID. 

Soroptimist Dinner Meeting

Soroptimist means Best for Women and our monthly dinner meeting will be Wednesday, April 8, at the Holiday Inn, 232 Broadway, Saratoga Springs.  Please join us where members and guests come together to advance our shared mission of empowering women and girls. Genealogy and Local History

Heritage Hunters will meet Saturday, March 21, at 1 p.m. at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St. in Schuylerville. Town of Waterford Historian, Russ VanDervoort will discuss his adventures in unearthing his family’s surname story. A shotgun wedding, Civil War Service, a nasty court case, and a maverick family member telling his family’s story, all influenced the evolution of his family name. Russ had been told several versions of his ancestors’ stories. He will explain the process that helped him determine the truths of how the changes took place. Russ has held many positions in Waterford and has written several local history books. For information, call 518-885-9309.

The Windermere Children

Saratoga Jewish Community Arts, with a generous grant from the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York and the sponsorship of Temple Sinai of Saratoga Springs, presents a panel discussion of the PBS drama, The Windermere Children. The program is scheduled for Tuesday, March 24 at 7 p.m. on Zoom. Several books and films have chronicled the 10,000 children rescued out of Europe during World War II on what became known as Kindertransport, the trains that carried the children to safety in Great Britain. Lesser known is the smaller, post-war British mission to rescue Jewish orphans who survived the concentration camps and give them a chance to reclaim their lives. Pre-registration is required. Opening Reception for Art Exhibition

An art exhibition by Galway Central High School seniors Margie Newsom and Felix Sanders will be held on Friday, March 6, from 3-5 p.m. at the Galway Public Library, 2112 East Street, Galway.  The artists will be on hand to discuss their works, pieces done in a variety of mediums.  Refreshments will be served.  The artwork will be on display at the library for the entire month of March.

Stone Soup

Join us for a Children’s Opera. Saratoga County History Center, located at 21 Fairground Ave., Ballston Spa is proud to present a very special production by Opera Saratoga. STONE SOUP pairs composer Joe Illick and librettist Mark Campbell for an operatic retelling of the classic European folk tale. Their reimagining will transport audiences to Blessing, Texas for a rocking-chair view of the comings and goings at Max’s General store. From the opera’s opening notes representing a young girl’s stomach rumbling, through the whimsically collaborative creation of the title meal, to its uplifting ending, STONE SOUP imparts a timeless message: we all have something to contribute and sharing makes things better for everyone. Gateway House of Peace Open House

Gateway House of Peace, located at 479 Rowland Street, Ballston Spa will be holding an open house on Saturday, February 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the public to learn more about our mission. Stained Glass Box with Lid Class

2-day beginner/intermediate workshop, February 28, 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and March 1, 1 – 4 p.m.  Whether you have done stained glass or not, there is something for everyone in this two-day beginner/intermediate workshop. You can create a box with a lid for your keepsakes or choose from an abstract window frame, or a sun catcher selected from a book of patterns. The Tubman Story: Harriet’s Fight for Human Rights

This engaging one-hour pre-recorded presentation will be shown on Saturday, February 28 at 10:30 a.m. Join speaker, Kimberly Szewczyk from the Harriet Tubman National Historical Park to learn about Harriet Tubman’s 92 years of life in service. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped to freedom and then risked her life repeatedly to lead others to safety through the Underground Railroad. The Ballston Spa Public Library is proud to offer this meaningful program in observance of Black History Month and encourages community members to attend. Free and open to the public. Come audition for an opportunity to showcase your talent during “Café Malta”, an intimate coffee

bands, storytellers and/or dancers. Each acoustic act selected will play a short 10–15-minute set.

Annual 4-H Shooting Sports Course

The course begins March 10 and will be held every Tuesday evening through April 14. This program is open to all youth ages 12 and older. Participants will learn the safe and ethical use of firearms and shooting equipment across multiple disciplines, including Home Firearm Safety, Shotgun, Smallbore Rifle, Muzzleloader, Archery, Air Pistol, and Hunting & Outdoor Skills. Sessions will be held at the 4-H Training Center, located at 550 Middleline Road, Ballston Spa, NY. All equipment, ammunition, and personal protective equipment are provided. Youth must be current Saratoga County 4-H members or enroll prior to participating. The course fee is $50, with an additional $5 enrollment fee for new 4-H members. Bus Trip to Aqueduct Racetrack

The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame and the New York Thoroughbred Breeders are partnering on a bus trip to historic Aqueduct Racetrack for Wood Memorial Stakes Day on Saturday, April 4. This year’s edition of the Wood Memorial — a Grade 2 race for 3-year-olds on the Kentucky Derby trail — will be the final time the event is held at Aqueduct before moving to the new Belmont Park in 2027. February Break Drama Camp with Elyse Young 

Town of Malta Parks and Recreation will hold a Drama Camp Tuesday through Friday of the February school break for ages 8-14. The camp will run from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day. Activities will include acting exercises, theater games, improvisation, vocal techniques, creative movement and dance, character analysis, arts projects and more! Each camper will also rehearse and present a short performance at the end of the last day of camp, Friday, February 20. 13th Annual Chili Bowl Fundraiser

Saratoga Clay Arts Center has announced the participating restaurants for its 13th Annual Chili Bowl Fundraiser, taking place Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Saratoga Springs City Center. Five beloved local restaurants will compete for the coveted title of “Best Chili 2026,” with the winning chef receiving a handmade ceramic trophy crafted by artists from Saratoga Clay Arts Center. This year’s confirmed lineup includes: Thorn + Roots — returning 2025 Best Chili winner, 9 Miles East, Morrissey’s Restaurant, Noah’s Restaurant, The Olde Bryan Inn. Proceeds from the event benefit three local organizations: Saratoga Clay Arts Center, To Life!,  and Wilton Food Pantry. Registration is now open. Chili Dinner

The Ballston Spa United Methodist Church, 101 Milton Ave, will be having a Chili Dinner with chili from various restaurants competing for top prize. The event will be held from 5-7 p.m. on January 23.  Adults $8, children 10 and under $5. Beverages and home-made desserts will also be available.  

Saratoga Film Showcase

Now in its second year, the weekend-long showcase on January 23 – 25 will feature 31 short films, nearly double last year’s lineup – with all but on filmmaker attending in person. The Saratoga Film Showcase offers a dynamic mix of film screenings, panels, live programming, and social gathering s designed to foster connection between artists and audiences. Beginner Maple Syrup Course

Have you ever wanted to make your own Maple Syrup? Join the Milton Grange and Corell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County on January 24 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Located at the 4-H Training Center, 556 Middle Line Rd., Ballston Spa, NY 12020. We will be teaching the basics on how to make maple syrup on a small scale geared toward beginners. This hands-on class will cover identifying trees to tap, how and when to tap a tree your trees, a basic at home set up, syrup grades and products, including a taste test. 

Class size is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Total cost is $30, $45 for two people, which includes a pancake lunch with your choice of meat and beverage along with a sample size bottle of syrup to go home with you. Monthly Indoor Craft and Garage Sale

Sunday, January 25, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. the popular Saratoga Wilton Elks Indoor Craft and Garage Sale will be held at the Lodge at 1 Elk Lane, Saratoga Springs. Snowshoe Races

The Saratoga Winterfest 5K Snowshoe Run/Walk will be held on Sunday, February 1 at 11 a.m. in the Saratoga Spa State Park.  There will be no indoor facilities, and we will meet in the quadrangle near the restrooms.

The Camp Saratoga 8K Snowshoe Race will be held on Saturday, February 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park.  

Registration for both events can be done online through www.runsignup.com with day-of onsite. Hosted by Gansevoort Volunteer Fire Department, located at 1870 Rte. 32 N. Gansevoort, on Saturday February 21, 2026, from 4 – 7 p.m. All you can eat Spaghetti Dinner, $10 Adults, $5 Kids (4-12), Free for children 3 and under. Raffle baskets and 50/50 Raffle. Kurt has been serving the community for 51 years as a Fire Department Member. Help us as a community give back to Kurt. Come audition for an opportunity to showcase your talent during “Café Malta”, an intimate coffee 

house at the Malta Community Center on Friday evening, March 13. It’s lucky Friday the 

13th right before St. Patrick’s Day! We are looking for talented musicians, vocalists, and small acoustic 

bands, storytellers and/or dancers. Each acoustic act selected will play a short 10–15-minute set.

4-H Party for a Cause 

The Winter’s Edge Party for a Cause fundraiser will be held on January 17, from 6 – 10 p.m. at The Hideaway at Saratoga Lake Golf Course. Tickets for this event are $20 and include music by Electric Rodeo, 5 Raffle tickets & Light Refreshments (veggies, cheese, crackers, pepperoni). There will be a Silent Auction, Raffle Baskets, and a whole lot of fun. We will also have an open cash bar and a limited menu for additional purchases. Additional raffle tickets will be available as well. Beginner Maple Syrup Course

Have you ever wanted to make your own Maple Syrup? Join the Milton Grange and Corell Cooperative Extension of Saratoga County on January 24 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Located at the 4-H Training Center, 556 Middle Line Rd., Ballston Spa, NY 12020. We will be teaching the basics on how to make maple syrup on a small scale geared toward beginners. This hands-on class will cover identifying trees to tap, how and when to tap a tree your trees, a basic at home set up, syrup grades and products, including a taste test. 

Class size is limited, and early registration is encouraged. Total cost is $30, $45 for two people, which includes a pancake lunch with your choice of meat and beverage along with a sample size bottle of syrup to go home with you. Monthly Indoor Craft and Garage Sale

Sunday, January 25, from 11 – 3 p.m. the popular Saratoga Wilton Elks Indoor Craft and Garage Sale will be held at the Lodge at 1 Elk Lane, Saratoga Springs. Admission is free with over 40 vendors, great parking and lunch available too.  Just about anything you can imagine might be offered.  There are lightly used children’s toys available and craft items too; as well as anything garage sale.  It’s a fun activity the entire family enjoys.  All proceeds go to the Elks Scholarship Fund.   An 8’ table with chairs is $15.   Email Debbie @ deborahozolins@gmail.com or call 518-226-5595 for information or to sign up for a table(s).  Applications are available in the Elks Lobby after 3 pm Monday through Saturday.  Next sale is February 22, 2026, March 15, 2026, and April 26, 2026.

Sow You Want to Be an Ecological Gardener?! 

Join us for this free workshop and leave with the tools to plant your own native plant garden come spring. Thursday, January 29, 5 – 7 p.m. Come by any time between 5 and 6:30 p.m. Skidmore College Center for Integrated Sciences. Plant seeds this winter and have seedlings to plant or pot on in spring.
