MeetKoda!!

Koda is a handsome, large mixed-breed boy who is approximately 1.5 years old and weighs ~80 pounds. At the end of April, his family made the heartbreaking decision to reach out to H.O.P.E. Animal Rescue for help finding him a new home. They loved him dearly, but with major life changes, upcoming travel, and a downsizing of their living situation, they knew they could no longer provide him with the future he deserved.

Koda came from a home with two children and two other dogs. While there was one incident to be reported during his time with this family, it did not contribute to why he was being rehomed, and the details matter. An older male dog in the home had become increasingly irritable and one day attacked its owner. Koda immediately intervened. A fight broke out between the dogs, but both walked away with only minor injuries—and, most importantly, so did the owner. Koda’s instinct was not to cause harm, but to protect someone he loved.

Since entering foster care, Koda has continued to prove what a special dog he is. He has successfully lived with both male and female dogs and absolutely adores canine companionship. He loves people just as much and finds joy in everything from playtime to snuggle time.

Like many young dogs, Koda is still learning and benefits from structure and guidance, but he has made tremendous progress over the past few months. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, non-destructive, and eager to be part of whatever his people are doing. He loves walks, car rides, and even playing soccer. (Just don’t leave snacks unattended—he considers that fair game.) He’s also lived successfully with birds, though cats are not really his thing.

Because of his size and strength, Koda would do best with someone comfortable handling large-breed dogs and ideally a home with a fenced yard where he can stretch his legs.

Unfortunately, Koda recently hit a bump in the road. Last weekend, while resting unsupervised at home, he suffered an unexplained injury to his front leg. X-rays have so far been inconclusive, and he is currently on anti-inflammatory medication and strict rest—something this active young boy is tolerating only because he has no choice. The injury also meant he missed our recent adoption event, where we know he would have stolen hearts.

To make matters more urgent, Koda’s foster family will be leaving the country for a month in early July, and we need to find him a place to land.

Koda is looking for someone willing to take a chance on him the way H.O.P.E. did. We will continue covering his medical expenses until he is fully recovered, but what he needs most is a family willing to invest their time, patience, and love into his future.

Koda is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and otherwise a healthy young dog with so much life ahead of him. If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Koda may just be your perfect match.

If you would like more information or to arrange to meet one of our pets, check out our Events page for adoption events to attend, contact us via email at hope.homes.for.orphaned.pets.exist@gmail.com or call 518-450-7013. We look forward to matching you with a new furry best friend.

MeetKiki!!

Meet sweet Kiki, a resilient cat currently looking for her forever home. Kiki was one of five indoor cats abandoned when their previous owners moved away. The ages of the cats range from 5 to 16 years and fortunately a home was found for the older cats, thanks to caring neighbors who saved them off the streets. We can only imagine what would have happened if these good samaritans hadn’t stepped up to help these poor indoor cats.

Estimated to be between 5 and 10 years old, Kiki is calm, sweet, and easy-going. Since she had not received veterinary care in several years, she recently underwent successful dental surgery, including extractions. Her blood work came back perfect, she is up to date on all vaccines, and she has tested negative for both FIV and FeLV. Kiki is ready to be back in a home where she will be loved and spoiled for the rest of her years.

The HOPE pet adoption center is open to the public on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, or by appointment. You can find our online adoption application at www.hopeanimalrescue.org. For any questions give us a call at 518-450-7013.

MeetTigger!!

Meet Tigger, a beautiful tabby cat who came to HOPE after a community member realized they were in over their head with too many cats and kittens. Tigger was very pregnant and due any day so we promptly got her into an experienced foster home. She gave birth to 3 kittens on April 17th but sadly one passed shortly after birth. Tigger has been an amazing mother to her two surviving kittens and will be ready for adoption in the next month or so after she is spayed, vaccinated and fully vetted. Her foster parents say that her personality is absolutely awesome. She was protective of her babies at first but as the days went along she became extremely affectionate and loving once she realized they were all safe and loved. It is hard to get photographs of her because she is so excited to see her foster parents that she immediately runs to them for pets and attention. She did live with other cats in her previous home so may be ok with a feline friend with proper introductions. She also seems unphased by the dogs in the foster home although they have not been in direct contact.

The HOPE pet adoption center is open to the public Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 11-4 or by appointment. Online adoption applications may be found at our website www.hopeanimalrescue.org. For any questions give us a call at 518-450-7013.

Saratoga County Animal Shelter to Hold Open House and Adoption Event

The Saratoga County Animal Shelter is hosting an Open House and Adoption Event from 10AM to 3PM at 6010 County Farm Rd, Ballston Spa on Saturday, June 20. No appointments are necessary! The shelter has approximately 20 dogs and 30 cats looking for loving homes.

This family-friendly event offers animal lovers of all ages a chance to interact with the animals and speak with staff about animal adoption, fostering, volunteering at the Shelter and more.

Payments can be made via cash, check, or card. Renters must provide proof of landlord approval, such as a lease agreement, if adopting.

To make the adoption process smoother, potential adopters should complete the application beforehand at the Saratoga County Animal Shelter’s website (https://saratogacountyanimalshelter.com/adopter-profile/) and bring a printed copy. This helps the staff and volunteers better understand preferences and find the ideal match. Please leave personal pets at home.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit will hold a demonstration at 1PM. Friends of the Saratoga County Animal Shelter will host a bake sale and face painting. Sasquatch Soft Serve Ice Cream Truck will have treats for purchase, and the Witch Walk of SOSA will perform a dance at 1:30PM.

For more information and to see adoptable animals, visit www.saratogacountyanimalshelter.com.

MeetMikey!!

WILTON — Poor Gus (now Mikey) had been in a foster home at another rescue for roughly a year and a half with no interest for adoption. He came to H.O.P.E. because it is his only hope. He started out very scared at the cat adoption center but has come such a long way in a short amount of time. He HATES other cats but lived with large dogs that he didn’t seem to mind. Mikey seems to be most comfortable with men but the more time he spends at the center, the more he is coming around to everyone. He craves attention and needs a supportive human who will help him gain confidence in his forever home. Mikey would do best without children where he can be the only cat and receive all the love from his adopter. He is fully vetted and is beyond ready to start the next chapter of his life.

The H.O.P.E. Cat Adoption Center is located in the Wilton Mall and is open to the public Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 11-4 or by appointment. Online adoption applications may be found on our website at www.hopeanimalrescue.org. For any questions give us a call at 518-450-7013.

MeetRipley!!

Ripley came to HOPE from a person who loved him dearly but fell on hard times and could not keep him or his housemate Velo. He is a bit shy but has a very sweet disposition and loves to be talked to and enjoys a nice head scratch. He is 6 years old, up to date on vaccines and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. Ripley and Velo prefer to have space of their own, so will be adopted separately. Ripley is on a urinary diet to prevent issues which occur when his diet is changed and is also working on losing a bit of weight since he is 19 pounds of cuteness. He is ready to lounge on the couch, watch the birds out a window or snuggle up for a good movie with his person. He will probably do best in a quieter environment where he can decompress and enjoy his free time.

The HOPE Cat Adoption Center is located in the Wilton Mall and is open to the public Tuesday, Friday and Saturday from 11-4 or by appointment. Online adoption applications may be found on our website at www.hopeanimalrescue.org. For any questions give us a call at 518-450-7013.
