GRANVILLE — Ruth Sarah Rose Lewis, age 82, peacefully passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020 at Granville Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing with her loved ones at her side. 

She was born on July 30, 1937 in Ballston Spa, NY, the daughter of the late Frank C. Lewis and Alice Reed Lewis. 

Ruth graduated from the University of Hawaii earning a Master’s Degree in Psychology.  Ruth continued her career as a state Drug Counselor in Burns, Oregon. She also worked at the Saratoga tree nursery. Ruth proudly served her country in the US Army stationed in Germany for two years.  She also volunteered to work in the vineyards in Israel where she stayed in the vineyard housing.  Ruth loved playing baseball in her past time.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. 

Ruth is survived by her sisters, Mary Cullen (Glenn), Helen Ryle, Cynthia Hubberd (James), Linda Whiting; sisters-in-law, Patricia Lewis, Susan Lewis wife of John, Susan Lewis wife of Warren, Kathy Lewis, Zonia Lewis, Connie Molloy; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.   A very good friend, Pamela Lunas from Eugene, OR. 

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Frank, Edward (Ginny), Fred, John, Ralph, Warren, James; brothers-in-law, Joseph Ryle (aka Dodie), Jack Ward; sisters, Cecelia Haynes and her husband Kenneth, Betty (aka Elizabeth) and her husband Edward Meers, 

A celebration of life will be postponed to a later date due to the ongoing public health concerns of COVID-19. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Granville Center for Rehab and Nursing and staff for all their love and compassion in taking care of Ruth.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Dr. Richard J. Fiorini, DO left this earth on March 19, 2020 to reunite with his loving wife, Joan V. Fiorini, who passed away on February 5, 2017. He was born in Campbell, Ohio on May 27, 1929.

Throughout his life he enjoyed reminiscing about the old neighborhood and cherished his life-long friendships. He was known by his childhood friends as “Fuzzy” and later also as “Doc”. He enlisted in the army in 1946 and after discharge in 1948, completed his GED. His initial college degree in 1951, was in education from Kent State University where he taught school in the Youngstown area. He married the love of his life, Joan Vivian Seese, on 10/12/1957. His lifelong goal was to become a physician, so he taught school during the day and returned to college in the evening to complete premedical coursework needed before applying to medical school. He was accepted into the class of 1963 at Kansas City College of Medicine and Biosciences. He interned in Flint, MI, from 1967-1968. After his internship in 1968, he returned to Campbell, Ohio to start a medical practice. Shortly after opening his first practice, he opened a second location in Youngstown, Ohio and continued to work both locations by himself for several years. He was a devoted physician who loved his patients. Also, during most of his years in medical practice he served simultaneously as the Health Commissioner for Campbell, Ohio. Additionally, he served as Mahoning County Coroner. He belonged to many organizations, and he was very proud of being a member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd order, #3813.

He leaves behind his children, Jennifer Fiorini, Cynthia Fiorini, Belinda Belli, and Jude Fiorini as well as grandchildren, Nicholas Fiorini, Natalia Fiorini, Gabrielle Belli, Patrick Belli, and Noah Belli.

He will be buried at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY, alongside his wife.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Richard E. Dunn, 71, died Friday, Mar. 13, 2020 at his residence.

Born in New Hartford, NY, he was a son of the late George and Henrietta (Koehring) Dunn. He graduated Cornell University with a degree in marketing. He was commissioned in the US Army and would excel at some of the Army’s most difficult assignments, including Ranger School.

 Soon after, he married his high school sweetheart, Anita Downs. They moved to West Germany, making lifelong friends and travelling extensively and Rick was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1974.

Returning stateside to Colorado, he earned his MBA and CPA while working in public accounting, ultimately returning to the Capital Region in 1979. The family settled in Saratoga, a community Rick would love and serve for decades. After working at Skidmore College, Rick had a 25 year career in marketing and business with Stewart’s Corp. Beyond his devotion to the Stewart’s family, he was a committed and caring volunteer in the broader Saratoga community, serving with the YMCA, Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs Zoning Board, Saratoga County IDA, Luther Forest Technology Campus, Catholic Charities, and the Church of St. Peter. He also devoted many years coaching softball and supporting programs such as 4-H. 

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Anita; his son Brian (Jen) and daughter Colleen (Christina), four beautiful grandchildren: Wesleigh, Frances, Ella and Ricky (his namesake); two sisters, Patricia (Joseph) Peck and Kathleen Olson and his brother, James Dunn (Claire). He was further blessed by the presence of much-loved nieces, nephews, and relatives on both sides of his extended family. He also cherished strong circles of long-time friends, whom he thought of as family. He is predeceased by his parents and a brother. Thomas Perry Dunn. 

Due to health concerns of the COVID-19, a Mass of Christian Burial will be in the Church of St. Peter at a future date/time to be announced. Per Rick’s wishes, there will no calling hours.

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Roger Louis Gaynor, Jr. of Saratoga Springs, NY, passed away on March 1, 2020.  He was born on April 23, 1943 in O’ahu, Hawaii.

Roger served in the United States Air Force from 1962-1965.  He worked in the Iron Workers Industry and was a member of the Local 12 Iron Workers’ Union in Albany, NY and the Texas Iron Workers’ Union.  He is survived by his son, Todd C. Gaynor.
