According to a press release issued by Saratoga Springs Police Chief Greg Veitch, at about 3 a.m., police officers assigned to foot patrol in the downtown area saw a man, later identified as Darryl Mount of Malta, shove a woman’s head into a brick wall near the corner of Caroline Street and Broadway. As they approached him, Mount fled on foot, heading south on Broadway and into the alley on the north side of the Washington Building.
Police chased Mount and deployed a Taser twice in an attempt to stop him when he was in the alley, but both Taser attempts failed and did not make any contact with him. Police lost sight of Mount when he ran into the construction area at the rear of the building.
Veitch said police began to check the area for Mount and he was found unconscious on the ground at the rear if the sidewalk that runs between Gaffney’s and Izumi Bar and Grill. Emergency medical was called and Mount was treated on the scene and then transported to Albany Med. For serious injuries.
“At this time Mr. Mount is still at Albany Medical Center and Saratoga Springs Police have no further information on his condition,” said Veitch in a press release. “The family has been notified [and] is with Mr. Mount at the hospital. The investigation is still on going and police are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to contact them by phone at (518) 584-1800, by email at www.saratogapolice.org or anonymously at (518) 584-TIPS.
