SARATOGA SPRINGS – Ever want to walk the red carpet and pose for with flashing cameras? Well, the opportunity will be there with the opening night celebration of the new Bow Tie Cinema’s Criterion movie theater on Railroad Place and the new Saratoga Community Health Center will be the beneficiary.

“The red carpet arrival begins at 5:30,” said Cathy Boden, spokeswoman for Saratoga Hospital Foundation. “Come dressed to be photographed in your red carpet best.”

Proceeds from the Opening Night celebration will benefit Saratoga Hospital’s Saratoga Community Health Center, which opened last month. The Health Center offers quality medical, dental and mental health care for individuals who are under-insured or have no insurance.

Boasting stadium seating with custom leather rocking chairs and Bow Tie’s signature BTX large format auditorium, featuring a 2,000-square-foot screen and 18,000 watts of Dolby digital 7.1 surround sound, Criterion Cinema will show upscale Hollywood Independent and family films. The Bow Tie Cinema in Wilton Mall will feature just released films.

The opening night benefit will start with a cocktail party at 6 p.m. and will follow with a private showing of a new, major motion picture.

"We have not heard what the movie will be yet,” said Boden, adding that refreshments for the event would come sponsors including Longfellows, Maestros, Plum Dandy, Prime, The Lily and The Rose, The Thirsty Owl, Villago and Village Pizzeria.

Bow Tie Cinemas is the oldest theater circuit in the nation. They opened their first theater in Manhattan in 1900 and the first theater in the Capital Region in Schenectady in 2006. They are known for their large format auditoriums and stadium seating.

The downtown location will feature rocking chair style seats and will have classic concession stands with gourmet hot dogs and beverages, including beer.“We are looking forward to the opportunity to deliver our trademark mission of ‘Returning Style and Elegance to the Movie Going Experience’ to the Saratoga market,” said Joe Masher, chief operating officer. “For the first time, movie fans in the area will have a wide choice of first run commercial and independent film.”

The Opening Night Grand Opening will be Thursday, October 17 at 19 Railroad Place starting at 5:30 p.m. The cocktail party begins at 6:30 p.m., with a private showing of a major, motion picture. Cost is $75 per person and tickets or more information can be obtained through Boden at This email address is being protected from spambots.
