Mary Ellen “Mary Lou” (George) Del Vecchio

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Mary Ellen “Mary Lou” (George) Del Vecchio, of West Circular Street, died unexpectedly at home, on Monday, July 11, 2016 at the age of 89 years young. Mrs. Del Vecchio was predeceased by her beloved husband, James “Murphy” Del Vecchio, her parents William A. and Palmena I. George, brothers, William, Albert, Edward and John George. She is survived by daughters, Roberta A. and Rosemary A. Del Vecchio; sister, Luella George Relyea; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews and the light of her life, her great- nephew, Sean P. Major. Mrs. Del Vecchio enjoyed cooking, crocheting and being surrounded by her family. She was born in Mechanicville but relocated to Saratoga Springs when she married and has lived there ever since. Mary Lou had made many friends over the years. Starting with her early life in the mills in Cohoes, traveling with her husband to Florida each year, she drew in friends from all over. Although losing the love her life, Jim, at a young age, she carried on, with him never far from her thoughts. She spent many years serving St. Peter’s Parish where she was a homeroom mom at St. Peter’ Academy, and later a Eucharistic Minister, bingo volunteer and a member of St. Peter’s Parish Council. Mrs. Del Vecchio retired from the Saratoga City School District in 1991, where she was the head cook at Caroline Street School. In her retirement she enjoyed caring for others, such as her late brother-in-law Albert Del Vecchio and later her brother Edward. She felt rewarded in her retirement with the best job she ever had, just hanging out with Sean day-to-day. She loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. She was known as Mom, Ma, Aunt Lou, Aunt Mary Lou, Aunt Mar, Sis, Roberta’s Mother, Ma D, Mrs. D. and LueMa to those who loved her. She will be endlessly missed. Relatives and friends gathered to pay their respects on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the William J. Burke and Sons/Bussing and Cunniff Funeral Homes, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at the Church of St. Peter, 241 Broadway in Saratoga Springs; burial was in the family plot at St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Ave., also in Saratoga Springs.
