John M. Huskie
SARATOGA SPRINGS – John M. Huskie, 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016 at Mary’s Haven.
Born on March 16, 1931 in Troy, he is the son of the late John F. and Viola (Brenan) Huskie. He married the love of his wife, the former Fern P. Packard, in Plattsburgh on Dec. 1, 1951 and was a proud US Army veteran of the Korean War. Upon his return, John was employed by the D & H Railroad, where he was assigned to the bridge and building gang. After that, he worked for the Grand Union Corporation, where he retired as meat manager, following 35 years of service.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as spending time with his family, being always happy and willing to help others.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Fern; his brother, Homer “Red” Huskie and his step-mother, Dorothy L. Huskie.
Survivors include his five children, Michael C. Huskie (Martha DeLarm), Thomas W. Huskie, Richard J. Huskie (Jennifer Levine-Huskie), Patti Huskie-Ramsey (William Ramsey) and John E. Huskie (Cynthia Bradley-Huskie), along with his love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A committal service with military honors was conducted on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations in his name be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street or Mary’s Haven, 35 New Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
