Saratoga Springs DPW Announces 5-Year Paving Plan
Department of Public Works Commissioner Bahram “BK” Keramati released a five-year paving plan to provide the public with clear expectations of when roads will be paved. Additionally, the plan will help coordinate efforts for water, sewer, and utility infrastructure upgrades, along with planning for multi-modal transportation improvements.
“Improving communication and planning DPW’s work ahead will ensure a predictable delivery of services to the public,” Keramati continued. “Additional work up front to put this together will help coordinate with other utilities and those interested in adding sidewalks or bike lanes for pedestrian use.”
Developed by DPW Deputy Commissioner Tad Roemer in coordination with the DPW Field Manager and Working Supervisors , the plan includes over 100 streets or street sections to be paved over a five-year window. Specific streets paved in a year might be adjusted due to changing conditions or resources, but for planning purposes can be expected to be paved within a year of its listing.
Its announcement is part of a larger effort by the department to share extended plans publicly, that were previously internal working documents. This includes water and sewer infrastructure planning, urban forestry efforts, building and facility renovations, and utilizing technology in the delivery of services.
“DPW’s workload is large and growing daily with the continued growth of the City, and the team works hard to plan ahead to prevent future problems. But many of these plans have been worked on internally without releasing them, and I believe by letting more people know what we’re doing there will be a benefit in the long run,” said Keramati.
