SARATOGA SPRINGS – This summer, the New York State Racing Association (NYRA) and the Saratoga 150 committee will honor 30 Thoroughbred horses that have made their mark at Saratoga Race Course over the past 150 years and induct them into the newly-created Saratoga Hoofprints Walk of Fame.

BALLSTON SPA – In front of a packed room at the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors’ March 19 meeting, 22-year-old Christina Abele learned she would not be appointed as the next director of the Saratoga County Animal Shelter, after the board voted to defeat the motion that would have put her in charge.

UTICA – After three attempts at bringing home a state championship in ice hockey, the Saratoga Springs boys’ varsity team finally reached the top of the mountain this past weekend in their fourth-straight Frozen Four appearance, defeating McQuaid Jesuit of Rochester by a score of 5-0 and winning the school’s first state championship in ice hockey since 1999.

SARATOGA SPRINGS – After upsetting the defending state champion Suffern in the quarterfinals of the 2013 state championship tournament, the Saratoga Springs Blue Streaks varsity ice hockey team has clinched a spot in the NYSPHSAA Frozen Four tournament in Utica, New York for the fourth-straight year.

Calling All Heroes: Hero Rush Coming May 18

BALLSTON SPA – Tough. Fun. Crazy. Unique.

These are just a few of the simple descriptions thrown around when talking about Hero Rush. The firefighter-themed obstacle run enters its second year in existence with a full schedule of 16 stops around the country, including their May 18 date at Ellms Family Farm in Ballston Spa.

SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Empire State Winter Games took place this past weekend up in Lake Placid, where dozens of young men and women from all across New York State competed in their favorite wintertime activities to see who would take home the gold. While there were many winners during the event, perhaps none were as successful as Saratoga Winter Club’s Katy Toth, who emerged from the Empire State Winter Games with seven gold medals in both long and short track speed skating.
