GREENFIELD—Three people were arrested on Monday, October 7 after it was discovered that there was a meth lab in their trailer.

SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Saratoga Center for the Family has re-opened their doors offering mental health counseling, educational and preventative programs as well as their Harriet M. West Child Advocacy Center resources.

MALTA – The monthly Town of Malta Board meeting on Monday, October 7 was preceded by a short public hearing about a property maintenance violation concerning a trailer on Lot #3 on Airfield Road. The town had previously determined that the trailer was unsafe and substandard for habitation and the town was going to remove it. Supervisor Paul Sausville invited the owner, current tenant or anyone with a public concern about the property to speak. Later, the board unanimously voted 5-0 to authorize the violation. There was some discussion amongst the board regarding plowing the Dunning Street Path when needed due to snow accumulation. What made this area particularly significant is that the town of Malta owns only part of the path land. Supervisor Sausville recommended that they proceed, but making it a “secondary priority” to main roads and the like, perhaps having a goal to have the path cleared within 48 hours after a storm. Roger Crandall, building and maintenance department supervisor, estimated that it would occupy one town worker for one day to complete the plowing in question and advocated that it be tried for one season to determine the financial impact. Councilman Peter Klotz took an alternative view, expressing concern that other areas might feel entitled to request the town’s assistance in plowing if the board set a precedent here. The matter was tabled for the time being The town board breezed through the rest of the agenda items, with all items passing, in most cases unanimously. Among these items were several appointments to town positions, including deputy animal control officer and deputy town clerk. Councilwoman Tara Thomas did have a dissenting vote on two items: an amendment to the deputy tax receiver’s job description (she was joined by Klotz on this) and to refer the Caro planned development district to the planning board (Klotz abstaining). Both of these items passed with a split vote. The date and time of the next town board meeting was moved to Wednesday, November 6 at 6 p.m. The date was moved to be after Election Day, and the earlier than usual time was set to allow for a public hearing on the budget.

 

 SARATOGA SPRINGS – Saratoga Farmers’ Market Association has reached an agreement with the Saratoga Spa State Park, managed by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, to hold its Saturday winter market in the Saratoga Spa State Park’s historic Lincoln Baths building at 65 South Broadway, adjacent to the National Museum of Dance, beginning Saturday, November 2. 
 


SARATOGA SPRINGS — A 45-year-old man brutally beat his mother last Monday breaking several bones in her body then sat with the body for nearly 14 hours before shooting himself with a shotgun.

Patricia Ambrozak, 75, owned Bayshore Tropic Hut and Marina, just north of the Route 9P bridge over Saratoga Lake. Autopsies revealed that her son, John Ambrozak, beat his mother in a domestic incident last Monday, breaking several of her bones before grabbing a knife and stabbing her to death. Police say he then sat with the body for the next 12 to 14 hours before killing himself with a single blast from a shotgun.

The bodies were not discovered until Friday morning when a relative went looking for the pair, who had not been seen or heard from since the Sunday prior.

Police say the son had been arrested in 2011 for assaulting his mother.

A nearby business owner said some rumors had been circulating that the pair had been suffering with financial difficulties lately and described Patty as a quiet and nice woman.

BALLSTON SPA – The seven-member Maplewood Manor Local Development Corporation (LDC), which was formed early this year with thegoal to transfer ownership of the Saratoga County-funded nursing home, has narrowed the list of potential buyers to five. 

SARATOGA SPRINGS – In his role as the city’s assessor, Saratoga Springs Commissioner of Accounts John Franck hosted a workshop regarding the requirements of the new state STAR (school tax relief) legislation before the city council meeting on Tuesday, October 1.

BALLSTON SPA — Dennis S. Drue pled guilty to all 58 counts, September 27, in the indictment which accused him of causing the accident which killed Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers, both 17, last December 1. His pleading guilty to all the charges is the same result as if the jury had returned a verdict of guilty on all the counts in the indictment.  

WILTON - Eight motorcyclists were recently charged with various criminal charges along with a combined 173 traffic tickets stemming from a street stunt ride through Saratoga and Warren Counties back on July 27.
