Ghost Horse: A Story of Redemption

By Staff Report | Entertainment

SARATOGA SPRINGS – On Tuesday, August 20 at 7 p.m., Northshire Bookstore Saratoga will host a reading, signing and discussion with acclaimed bestselling author Joe Laymen and horse trainer Tim Snyder, the subject of Layden’s book The Ghost Horse: A True Story of Love Death and Redemption.

In The Ghost Horse, Layden presents the magical story of how Tim Snyder, at a low point in his life, came across a broken horse; and how they helped heal each other.

After the loss of his wife, Lisa, Snyder bought a filly that looked the part of a great racer but came with a few flaws: blind in one eye, a club-foot and a slow runner. But little by little Snyder and his horse found a connection. He tried different shoes for her, different training methods. Improvement was small at first, but Snyder found a way to help his horse reach inside herself and become a terrific racer. Snyder also noticed something very odd—the horse, who he named Lisa’s Booby Trap (for his late wife, and, well, a strip club he used to frequent), started to take on personality traits of Lisa—and to win races. Lisa’s Booby Trap became the story of the racing season. Although her amazing string of wins would come to an end, the legend of the Ghost Horse was born.
