A Tribute to Django Reinhardt:Hot Club of Saratoga Presents Django Birthday Celebration Jan. 23

ALBANY — The Hot Club of Saratoga and The Linda-WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio will collaborate on a spectacular homage to the musical genius of Django Reinhardt Tuesday, Jan. 23 with a concert, immersive workshops, open jam session, and dancing.
The highlight of the evening features a concert with the Hot Club of Saratoga alongside Adrien Chevalier Gypsy Jazz Quartet.
The celebration will crescendo into an open jam session, inviting musicians of all levels to join in and pay tribute to Reinhardt’s innovation through collaborative improvisation and musical camaraderie.
Workshops will take place 4:45-6:30 p.m., the concert at 7 p.m., and jam from 9-11 p.m. at The Linda – WAMC Performing Arts Studio in Albany.

Singing The Blues at Caffe Lena Feb. 10

SARATOGA SPRINGS — A night of vintage blues and roots will be staged at Caffè Lena on Saturday, Feb. 10, featuring two talented duos: Boston’s Erin Harpe Country Blues Duo and Saratoga’s Mark & Jill Sing The Blues.
The two teamed up for last year’s sold-out “HURT – A Mississippi Inspiration: Fundraiser for the Mississippi John Hurt Film Project” show last April at Caffé Lena.
Mark & Jill Sing The Blues are led by guitarist/singer Mark Tolstrup, accompanied by the vocals of his partner Jill Burnham.
Erin Harpe Country Blues Duo has been called “today’s country blues at its very best” by Living Blues Magazine. The Boston-based couple features finger-style blues guitar, kazoo, foot percussion, grooving ukulele bass and vocals.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Feb. 10, and the show starts at 8. Tickets are $25 ($22 members/$12 student and child) and can be purchased at the door or online at CaffeLena.org. This event is all ages.

Hattie’s Mardi Gras
Saturday, January 27, Hattie’s Mardi Gras will be held at the Saratoga Springs City Center. This year’s beneficiary is The SEAT Center Culinary Lab, an organization dedicated to training young people for careers in the culinary and hospitality industries. Business for Good’s Co-Founders Ed and Lisa Mitzen will host the event. Acclaimed actress, producer, singer, dancer, and advocate Vanessa Williams will be the event’s special guest. DJ Fernando Bustamente will provide entertainment during the cocktail hour, and live music will be performed by Soul Session and Garland Nelson. Hattie’s Executive Chefs Jasper Alexander, Mark Graham, and Phil Fitzpatrick and their team will bring the flavors of New Orleans to Saratoga Springs. Fundraiser Paint and Sip for Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
Saturday, January 27, 3 p.m. at Paint-n-Gogh, 114 Milton Ave, Ballston Spa. The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) Col. George L. Willard Chapter 154 is conducting a fundraiser at the local veteran owned business Paint-n-Gogh, paint, and sip. A portion of each ticket will go towards the Chapters’ mission to preserve the history and legacy of the heroes who fought to save the Union during the Civil War such as our funding to repair the New York’s 77th Regiment Monument. The Musicians of Ma’alwyck
On Saturday, January 27 at 3 p.m., Old Saratoga Reformed Church will be hosting The Musicians of Ma’alwyck’s Tribute to Hilary Tann Concert. Monthly Indoor Craft and Garage Sale
On Sunday, January 28, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. the popular Elks Ladies Auxiliary Indoor Craft and Garage Sale will be held at the Saratoga-Wilton Elks Club on Elks Lane. Admission is free. Over 40 vendors, great parking, crafts galore, and lunch. Free AARP Foundation Tax-Aide
Beginning February 2 through April 12, AARP Foundation will provide free tax assistance and preparation through its Tax-Aide program at the Ballston Spa Library, located at 21 Milton Avenue, Ballston Spa. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is the nation’s largest volunteer-based free tax preparation service. Volunteers are trained and IRS-certified every year to ensure they understand the latest changes to the U.S. Tax Code. Tax-Aide will provide taxpayer assistance through interaction with IRS-certified Tax-Aide volunteers in two short same day, in-person meetings to exchange documents. 11th Annual Chili Bowl Fundraiser
Held at the Saratoga Springs City Center, 522 Broadway, Saratoga Springs on February 3 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Participating restaurants include Cardona’s Market (returning Champion), Kindred, RHEA, Fat Paulies and Walt and Whitman. Guests purchase tickets to enter, choose a handmade bowl, enjoy live music, and participate in the chili taste testing. A portion of the proceeds benefit the local cancer non-profit organization To Life and the Wilton Food Pantry. Tickets are $27 and include a handmade bowl (plus tax). Pre-purchase bowls and tickets at saratogaclayarts.org. You can bring 2 non-perishable food items for Wilton Pantry and save $2 on your ticket. Guests can choose from 3 time slots and have the opportunity to purchase more bowls onsite. The chili competition is fierce, and guests always have lots of fun.
The Saratoga Winterfest 5K Snowshoe Run/Walk
Held on Sunday, February 4 at 11 a.m. in the Saratoga Spa State Park. There will be no indoor facilities and we will meet in the quadrangle near the Wired restrooms. The Camp Saratoga 8K Snowshoe Race will be held on Saturday, February 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park. Registration for both events can be done online through www.runsignup.com with day-of onsite. A limited supply of Dion snowshoes available to rent for $5 on a first come/first serve basis. BALLSTON SPA —The 2024 Ballston Spa Chocolate Fest, hosted by the Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association, will take place on Friday, Feb. 2 from 4– 8 p.m.
Stroll the Village of Ballston Spa for $1 chocolate tastings from over 20 chocolate chefs/venues. Then, vote for your favorites in 3 categories: Dessert – Savory – Beverage. The event will also feature chocolate-themed activities, artist demos, special promotions and sales.

Bonacio Announces Sponsorship of Universal Preservation Hall

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Bonacio and Universal Preservation Hall (UPH) have announced a new sponsorship deal that will have the development, construction and management company as the 2023-24 season sponsor for UPH.
Bonacio Construction Inc., a Bonacio company, was instrumental in the restoration of UPH as a performing arts venue and served as contractor for the project.
According to a statement released by the organizations, the collaboration will help the community thrive and stand the test of time by creating the building blocks through arts and entertainment.
