Historic Cornell Fire Tower ?

Wilton Wildlife Preserve and Park, 80 Scout Rd., Wilton | 10 a.m.  – 3 p.m. Climb a towner without climbing a mountain. Visit the Historic Fire Tower for the aerial view of Camp Saratoga and the historic reproduction of a fire ranger cabin. For safety reasons, the tower will be closed in inclement weather. Fridays in the Garden ?

Brookside Museum, 21 Fairground Ave, Ballston Spa | 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. A return of our popular program from last year, Fridays in the Garden. Italian Buffet Fundraiser ?

Celebrating Sanctuary: Saratoga’s Thoroughbred Aftercare ?

National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, 191 Union Ave., Saratoga Springs | 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Free admission. Celebrating Sanctuary brings awareness to therapy horses, thoroughbred retirement, and the organizations that lead these efforts. The day’s family-friendly activities will take place in an open house setting and visitors will get to meet thoroughbreds in person. The event will give visitors an opportunity to learn about equine sanctuaries and how they make a difference in horses’ lives. Will also feature a children’s book reading by Maddy Zanetti, a visit from Upset the miniature horse, and a presentation by the New York Thoroughbred Breeders. Genealogy & Local History

Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St. in Schuylerville | 1 p.m. Heritage Hunters meeting –  An Ancestor Mystery Solved through DNA, will be the program topic. Toby Kirschman’s company, DNA Investigations, helped an adoptee identify his biological father and many of his family members. Toby will demonstrate how genetic genealogy was helpful. She is a veteran DNA analyst from the California Department of Justice DNA laboratory. She started her business in Saratoga Springs in 2020 to bring genetic genealogy education and services to law enforcement and the community. Public is welcome. For info call 518-885-9309.

Narcan Training

Juneteenth Program

Zoom Presentation | 7 p.m. Join the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation for “Historic Preservation & Lost Histories of Saratoga Springs.” In celebration of Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States, the Foundation is pleased to partner with Dr. Myra Young Armstead of Bard College for a community conversation about Black history in Saratoga Springs, the effects of Urban Renewal, and the role historic preservation plays with lost histories within a community. This is a feature documentary film about the millions of Americans living in long-term recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs, and the film that started the recovery movement here in Saratoga. New History Exhibit Opening Reception

10th Annual Plant Sale

One Room School House ?

24 Old Daketown Road, Middle Grove | 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The Town of Greenfield Historical Society will be having the Daketown School #8 open for visitors. See the way communities set their schools up for their children to learn.  Learn about the teacher’s box of books, see the black boards with proper cursive writing for that era. Have a seat in one of the many types of school desk. You can even ring the teachers bell to call class back in session. Learn about some of the games that kids would have played.  And kids favorite place to tour, the outhouse. The event is free.

Brandtville Boogie: Walking Tour ?

 Tour starts: 29 Doten Ave., Saratoga Springs | 10:30 a.m. The Saratoga Springs History Museum presents “Brandtville Boogie,” a fun, family-friendly walking tour where guests will learn about the oldest homes in the neighborhood and find interesting remnants of this historically African American rural community dating to the late 1800s. Led by History Museum Board member Carol Daggs, a descendant of the original Brandtville residents and author of “Saratoga Soul Brandtville Blues.” Tickets are $15 for History Museum members, $25 for non-members – more info at saratogahistory.org/events. 518-584-6920 

Round Lake House and Garden Tour

Various locations in Round Lake | 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. a tour of houses and gardens in Round Lake Village will benefit the historic Round Lake Auditorium. 10th Annual Beekman Street Art Fair ?

Beekman St., Saratoga Springs |10 a.m. – 5 p.m. The Beekman Street Art Fair, Saratoga’s ever-popular kick off to summer is celebrating 10 years of bringing artists, neighbors, and visitors together in a festive art and music filled environment. The 2023 fair features artists tents, entertainment coordinated by the Ballston Spa Community Band, culinary venues, and street performers.  And thanks to CDTA, fairgoers can easily get to and from the fair via a free shuttle bus running from the Saratoga Casino to Beekman and Grand Ave. 

The Ballston Spa Birdhouse Festival ?

Various locations in Downtown Ballston Spa | 11 a.m. – -4 p.m. Rain date is June 18. A huge event, with over 1000 birdhouses decorating the village of Ballston Spa. It will be a huge draw for people all over the capital region. Original and handmade artwork. 

Fundraiser for USMC ?

15th Annual Jewish Women’s Gala

The Hyatt Place, Clifton Park | 5 p.m. The festival begins with the Annual Jewish Women’s Gala with guest speaker Elisheva Liberman, a gourmet dinner and raffle auction. The Saratoga Jewish Cultural Festival launches its 11th season this summer with a series of programs by Congregation Beth Shalom of Clifton Park, Congregation Shaara Tfille of Saratoga Springs, Chabad of Saratoga, Chabad of Clifton Park, and Temple Sinai. Offerings to the public will run through August and include concerts, plays, lectures, films, discussions, and outdoor family events.  The festival concludes August 22 with Klezmer and Kugel. Making Full and Low/No Sugar Jam

Learn how to make a strawberry full sugar, low sugar, or no sugar jam, plus freezer jam; a no cook recipe great for kids that requires no canning equipment. Flag Day Parade ?

The Constitution is the Solution

The John Birch Society has a new series of DVDs for you to learn how the Constitution was intended to secure rights, not to enable the federal government to those rights. Adirondack Trust Company Festival of Young Artists ?

Through a seemingly unrelated collection of songs, scenes and monologues, The Theory of Relativity introduces a compelling array of characters experiencing the joys and heartbreaks, the liaisons and losses, the inevitability, and the wonder of human connection. Annual Memorial Day Parade ?

Honor the memory of those U. S. servicemen and servicewomen who have passed away.  The parade begins across from Carousel Village and continues with a pause for a ceremony at the Kayderosseras Creek bridge then continue along Milton Avenue to Front Street where the parade proceeds to the Civil War Monument, turning onto Low Street to Veterans Park. Hosted by the Village of Ballston Spa, Henry Cornell American Legion Post #234 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #358, the schedule includes the Placing of Wreaths, a rifle salute, Invocation, Memorial Day address. Remarks from Grand Marshal, a reading of the Gettysburg Address, Flag Raising at Veterans Park, TAPS, Closing Benediction, followed by a reception in Wiswall Park.

To accurately reflect the diversity of our regional indigenous cultures, this exhibition includes both historical and contemporary work made with traditional Abenaki methods incorporating sound, language, and storytelling.

Genealogy and Local History

Heritage Hunters will meet on Saturday, May 20, at 1 p.m. at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St. in Schuylerville. Daniel Mazeau, of Beverwyck Archaeology, will speak about an excavation he and partner Aaron Gore did on the Cohen-Ketzer property located in Bethlehem. The property owners were anxious to know whether evidence could be found of an occupation by a Revolutionary War veteran. Beverwyck Archaeology is a Cultural Resource Management Firm. A Call to Duty: Saratoga County Veterans in WW2

The Saratoga Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the John Curtis Ancestors announce the grave marking of the John Curtis. John Curtis joined his patriotic service in 1776 in Fairfield, CT as part of the 4th Continental Regiment under the command of Lt. Col Icabod Crane and served as a private at the Battle of Brooklyn Heights. He moved to New York in 1795 and purchased a farm.

His story, “A Light Snow Falling” was a finalist in the Tiferet Journal Fiction Writing Contest.  He is currently finishing work on a book of ghost stories.

Extremis is a short documentary that follows Dr. Jessica Zitter, an ICU and palliative care specialist who leads a hospital ICU team. The film addresses the challenges patients and families face when making decisions in the midst of a medical crisis. Akum Norder on Researching a Community
