Summer Lunch Program for Children
This summer during the months of July and August the First Baptist of Ballston Spa will sponsor a Summer Lunch Program for children living in and around the village.  Nutritious lunches will be made daily and distributed in seven locations.  Volunteers are needed to assemble and distribute the lunches.  Anyone who is interested in volunteering in some way in making a financial contribution, or in obtaining an application or a menu can contact the church at 518-885-8361 or at bspabaptist202@gmail.com or bspabaptist.org.  Please help to impact the children of Ballston Spa in a positive way.

3rd Annual Plein Air Art Show and Sale
The “Friends of Saratoga Spa State Park” invite all art lovers to the Spa Park Administration Building Arcade on Sunday, July 25, from 3 – 5 p.m. to see and purchase “Plein Art” paintings created that day in gorgeous Saratoga Spa State Park. Refreshments will be served, and painting sales will benefit the Friends and the Plein Air artists. Join us to enjoy it all.

Public Art Demonstration
Southern Saratoga Art Society is hosting a free and open to the public demonstration by artist Mark Tarabula on Monday, July 26 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom.  To register please visit: southernsaratogaartist.com. Mark Tarabula is a 2021 Artist in Residence at the Saratoga Clay Arts Center.  SCAC promotes the ceramic arts provides a place for people to explore the medium of clay, hone and develop their skills and be part of a community.  Mark will demonstrate how to throw a vase, mug, bowl and plate and describe the basic forms of throwing and how to do the process. 

Workshop for Farmers
Cornell Cooperative Extension is holding a workshop to educate farmers about two new serious pests that are now in our region – tall waterhemp and the soybean cyst nematode.  The workshop is July 27 from 1-3:15 p.m. at 4-H Training Center, 556 Middleline Rd., Ballston Spa (info and registration at tinyurl.com/6h4uuyv9). Two NYSDEC pesticide applicator credits can be earned.  Dr. Lynn Sosnoski (Cornell Univ.) will teach farmers how to identify tall waterhemp as well as its other pigweed relatives. Farmers will also learn its biology and management.  Dr. Jaime Cummings (Syngenta) will discuss the biology and management of the soybean cyst nematode, the costliest soybean pest in the United States.  There is no charge to attend the workshops, but pre-registration is required.  All applicable covid-19 precautions will be followed. Southern Saratoga Art Society Exhibit

Hearts of the Adirondacks Festival
Join us on Sunday, August 1 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Adirondack Folk School, located at 51 Main St., Lake Luzerne. The event will include make your own ice cream sundaes on the back porch, hot dogs and fixings hot off the grill, demonstrations of traditional Adirondack crafts, fireside storytelling, shopping at the Adirondack Folk School Gift Shop, musical performances, plus, our annual silent auction. It is the best in the Adirondacks and features items made by Adirondack Folk School instructors and artisans from throughout the region.  Auction open 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The spectacular result of this year’s quilt challenge will be displayed, and raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Admission is free, charges apply for food and purchased items.

To be held at 6:15 p.m. Monday evenings in August—August 2, 9, 16. 23 & 30.  Registration is $5 day-of or $20 for all five races. This is a low-key, all-outdoors event topped off by light refreshments and unusual raffle prizes.  Please bring your own water. Proceeds benefit the Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park.  Current CDC and NYS guidelines will be followed. Big Truck Day
Join us for a great morning of fun on August 7 at Maple Avenue Middle School. Come check out some of the coolest big trucks in the area! Enjoy food and treats from your favorite local vendors. Truck Day is a primary fundraiser for the Children’s Museum. Money raised at this event makes it possible for the Museum to offer quality education programs and learning opportunities for children and families throughout our community. Send us a drawing of your best Big Truck. The first 50 applicants receive a FREE PASS to Big Truck Day! This year it’s not a contest, but passes are limited so act soon! Photographing the Beauty Around Me
Saratoga County Office for the Aging is excited to offer a new, free program for 55+ residents of Saratoga County. A six-week Zoom course designed to teach older adults to capture digital photographs of their environments and the people they encounter on a daily basis. Participants will learn and hone basic aim-and-shoot skills. By the end of this class, students will have an appreciation for what makes a great photograph. No previous photography skills are required. The course will be held every Friday beginning on July 9 – August 13, from 2:15 – 3:45 p.m. There is a limited number of class participants for this course. It is a first come, first serve basis. Saratoga Veterans Chorus Open House
The Saratoga Veterans Chorus invites veterans, active duty, Guard and Reserve service members and their families to an open house on Saturday, July 10, between 1 and 3 p.m. at American Legion Post 70, 34 West Avenue, Saratoga Springs to learn more about the chorus and its activities. Strawberry shortcake will be served. The chorus provides an opportunity for male and female veterans of America’s Armed Forces to experience the joy of a cappella singing in an informal environment. While public performances of the National Anthem and patriotic music will be scheduled, no participant is ever required to sing publicly. Instruction is by Penny Schiek, a retired music educator and accomplished choral director. The chorus will be re-grouping after an 18-month COVID stand down with in-person Monday evening rehearsals starting July 19 at 7:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 70. Cars & Coffee
The Town of Greenfield Lions Club is sponsoring a Cars & Coffee event on Saturday, July 3 from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Middle Grove Town Park, located at 430 Middle Grove Rd., Middle Grove. The event is free to the public. Cars, trucks, and motorcycles are welcome, including daily drivers. There will be door prizes, 50/50 raffle and the Lions Club will be serving up fresh breakfast sandwiches and donuts. All proceeds will stay in the community to support the Greenfield Lions Youth Programs and the Town of Greenfield Youth Rec Program. Lemonade Stand
Celebrate the first official weekend of summer with cold lemonade, snacks, treats, music and more at Ribbon Café, located at 11 Prospect St., Ballston Spa, all for a good cause. Several local families are teaming up with the locally known restaurant to provide a sweet treat stand in the hopes of raising money for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Alex’s Lemonade Stand mission is to change the lives of children with cancer through funding impactful research, raising awareness, supporting families, and empowering everyone to help cure childhood cancer. Monthly Dinner
Friday, June 25 at Principessa Elena Society, located at 11-13 Oak St., Saratoga Springs, will host take out only, curbside pick-up from 5 – 7 p.m.  Menu: pasta w/sauce, meatballs w/sauce, sausage w/sauce, salad, Italian bread, butter. Cost is $10. Open to the public. 

Trap/Clay Shoot
Fish Creek Rod & Gun Club located at 123 NY Rt 32 Schuylerville, will host a Trap/Clay shoot on Saturday, June 26 running from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Open to the public – Great time to introduce the youth to trap shooting for Fun. Novice to Expert, only 5.00 per round. 

Rummage Sale
Charlton Freehold Presbyterian Church will hold its Rummage Sale on Friday, June 25, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Saturday, June 26, 9 a.m. – noon.  For those wishing to drop off items, please do so on June 22 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (no books, electronics, or large pieces of furniture, please). A percentage of the proceeds will benefit CAPTAIN and the BH-BL Area Churches Summer Lunch Program for children. Please:  bring your own bags, and wear mask. 

Indoor and Outdoor Yard sale

11th Annual Jane Austen Retreat
Join the Jane Austen Society North America (JASNA)-New York Capital Region at Wiawaka on Lake George, on June 25-27. Participants will join scholars and enthusiasts in exploring Austen’s world through facilitated discussions. Bring a lawn chair for a picnic tea on the grounds.  In addition to planned events, enjoy the splendors of the beautiful Lake George setting by exploring the cottages and grounds, the gardens, the dock, and the lake. Sheep to Shawl
On Sunday, June 27, between 12 and 4 p.m., sheep, lambs, farmers, herders, and shearers, including the famous Fred the Shearer, will assemble on Brookside’s lush front lawn to demonstrate every facet of sheep husbandry, shearing, and weaving to produce the wool clothing that was so ubiquitous in colonial America. Saratoga Chamber Players Live Concert
A summer afternoon concert to honor the memory of Dr. David A. Wasser, long-time board member and supporter of the arts in general. Oil Painting Demonstration
Southern Saratoga Art Society is hosting a free, open to the public oil painting demonstration with artist Takeyce Walter on Monday, June 28 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. Takeyce is an award winning contemporary American painter focusing on the natural landscapes of the Northeast, working primarily with oil paint and soft pastels. She is especially inspired by bodies of water and there is a great sense of familiarity, tranquility, and reverence in each piece of her artwork. Brown Bag Lunch Workshop

Photographing the Beauty Around Me
Saratoga County Office for the Aging is excited to offer a new, free program for 55+ residents of Saratoga County, a six-week zoom course designed to teach older adults to capture digital photographs of their environments and the people they encounter on a daily basis. Participants will learn and hone basic aim-and-shoot skills. By the end of this class, students will have an appreciation for what makes a great photograph. No previous photography skills are required. The course will be held every Friday beginning on July 9 – August 13, from 2:15 – 3:45 p.m. There is a limited number of class participants for this course. It is a first come, first serve basis. Hearts of the Adirondacks Festival
Join on Sunday, August 1 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Adirondack Folk School, located at 51 Main St., Lake Luzerne. The event will include make your own ice cream sundaes, hot dogs and fixings hot off the grill, demonstrations of traditional Adirondack crafts, fireside storytelling, shopping at the Adirondack Folk School Gift Shop, musical performances, plus, our annual silent auction. It is the best in the Adirondacks and features items made by Adirondack Folk School instructors and artisans from throughout the region. Auction open 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. This year’s quilt challenge will be displayed, and raffle tickets will be available for purchase. Admission is free. Charges apply for food/purchased items.

Schuylerville Alumni Banquet Cancelled 
Due to the Covid-19 virus, the Schuylerville Alumni banquet which is ususally held the first week in August is cancelled for 2021. Genealogy and Local History
Heritage Hunters Zoom program for Saturday, June 19 at 1 p.m., will be presented by Clifton Park Historian and author, John Sherer. Breaking Down Brick Walls Using Ancestry DNA, will be the program topic. John will explain in simple, non-technical terms, how to break down brick walls in your family tree through DNA matches and triangulation. These same tools have helped adopted children find their biological parents. John has a bachelor’s degree in History and a Master’s in Museum Studies and American Folklife. Annual Father’s Day Kid’s Fishing Derby
Presented by The Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Pro Firefighters Union, SSPD Saratoga Basspointers, John Huppuch Memorial Derby, 373 Crescent Ave Saratoga Springs (Lake Lonely).  To be held on Father’s Day, June 20 from 9 a.m. to Noon. FREE for All Children 14 and under accompanied by an adult. Prizes for fish caught in all age categories. Worms will be provided-you must bring your own tackle. Hot dogs, soda, chips and fun are free for all.

Sundae on the Farm 
This year the tour will be a Self-Driven Tour on Father’s Day, Sunday June 20 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Participants are invited to the Mill Creek Farm in Stillwater. From the comfort of their vehicles, families will be provided an audio recording featuring local farm families talking about all things Saratoga County Agriculture. Families will get to see dairy cows, beef cows, meat sheep, horses, and farm equipment. They will even get to try their luck at the Golden Horseshoe Hunt! King Dairy and Stewart’s Shops are donating Ice Cream Coupons for everyone who comes out (while supplies last). This event is free, fun, and family-friendly. 11th Annual Jane Austen Retreat
Join the Jane Austen Society North America (JASNA)-New York Capital Region at Wiawaka on Lake George, on June 25-27. A zoom event with Beth Sabo Novick, super storyteller on Tuesday, June 15 from 11 a.m. – Noon. Engagement, humor, learning, wisdom: all that and a rollicking good tale — such is the art and practice of the storyteller. For us, this will be embodied by Beth Sabo Novick. She will tell her Havurah Vatik audience about the power of storytelling, teach us what makes a good story, and treat us to some wonderful stories along the way. Beth is co-founder of the Jewish Storytelling Festival in Saratoga Springs. She tells personal Jewish stories and Jewish folk tales, and she has reveled in this practice for pretty much ever. When she is not telling stories, she teaches workshops on stress and joy, she coaches people to let go of anxiety and fear. And she is a licensed massage therapist and hypnotist. New York, Joseph Smith, and the Fight for Religious Freedom

Saratoga Springs Youth Ballet Program
Saratoga Springs Youth Ballet will be holding a Young Children’s Summer Program for students ages 4 to 7 years old. The program will run two weeks July 12-16 and July 19- 23 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Each day will follow a different ballet theme and it will include a ballet lesson, crafts, stories, and related activities! Fundraiser Yard Sale
Support the fundraiser for Gateway House of Peace located at 479 Rowland St. in Ballston Spa on June 4, 5, & 6, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds go to Gateway House of Peace. Gateway House is a donor driven end of life home that cares for local resident & families during loved one’s final days.

Perennial Plant and Garage Sale
The Southern Saratoga Garden Club will hold its annual perennial plant and garage sale on Friday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  This event will be held in conjunction with the Sherwood Forest Neighborhood Garage Sale and will be located at 8 Berkshire Dr., Clifton Park.  A wide selection of shade and sun perennials will be available, including a variety of specimen Hosta.  In addition, experienced gardeners will be on hand to assist you in choosing plants suitable to your garden.  Miscellaneous garden art and other garage sale items will also be on sale.  Proceeds from the sale will fund the club’s scholarship to a graduating Shenendehowa student entering a horticultural-related field, the Wiawaka Center for Women in Lake George, and The Nature Conservancy. Masks and social distancing will be required. 

Craft Fair at Brookside
The Saratoga County History Center is thrilled to announce a county-wide craft fair.  The family-friendly free event will be held at beautiful Brookside Museum, located at 6 Charlton St., Ballston Spa on Saturday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Guests will be able to shop a wide variety of locally handcrafted collectibles, antiques, and farm products.  Moreover, the event is juried, and vendors will be judged on their originality, creativity, and craftsmanship.  No mass-produced or commercially made items will be permitted.  Thus, this is a terrific opportunity for New Yorkers to sample and appreciate the best of upstate artisans, farmers, and culinarians. The Town of Greenfield Lions Club will be sponsoring the event on June 5 from 8 – 11 a.m. at the Middle Grove Town Park. The event is free. All cars and trucks welcome, even daily drivers. Beth is co-founder of the Jewish Storytelling Festival in Saratoga Springs. She tells personal Jewish stories and Jewish folk tales, and she has reveled in this practice for pretty much ever. The Harmony Corners Famous Chicken Barbecue will be held this spring on Sunday, May 23 at the Harmony Corners firehouse, Route 67, Charlton. This will be Drive through, takeout only. Serving ticket holders between 3 and 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Smith’s Pie Shop, Mail N More in Burnt Hills, and McConchie’ Heritage Acres Campground. Watercolor Demonstration

Jim Allen’s Famous Chicken BBQ Fundraiser
This dinner will be a drive-thru/pick-up dinner we will not be serving sit down meals inside. Dinners will be bagged and delivered to your car. Genealogy and Local History
Heritage Hunters Zoom program for Saturday, May 15 at 1 p.m. will be presented by Dr. Michael Lucas, Curator of Historical Archaeology at the New York State Museum. Dr. Lucas’ current research focuses on the historical archaeology of slavery in the Hudson River Valley, with an emphasis on the period from 1750 to 1820. Michael has a Ph.D. in American Studies and he worked as an archaeologist in the Chesapeake region for 25 years before coming to the State Museum in 2014.  He is co-editor of the book Archaeology of the War of 1812.
