SARATOGA SPRINGS – Nellie (Saddlemire) Agosta, 87, passed away Friday, October 11.
Born on July 20, 1926 in Knox, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Myrtle (Tousan) Saddlemire. She came from a close knit family of German and Dutch descent and was one of 10 children. Nellie was a 1943 graduate of Berne Knox Westerlo and went to work for GE Large Steam Generator and then GE Payroll. It was here that she met her husband of 50 years, the late Louis Agosta. They were married on April 5, 1959, settling in Saratoga Springs. They lived not too far from the Saratoga Race Course and some of Nellie’s favorite memories were of their outings at the track. They enjoyed nice dinners out and attended many Navy reunions. Nellie and Louie traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Italy, most memorably visiting the impressive Vatican City. Spending time with their family on Sunday afternoons was very important to them. Nellie was a devoted Catholic, member of the Prayer Shawl Group in Saratoga Springs, a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, the GE Woman’s Club retiring in 1986 after 43 years of service and the Craft Club. She was a warm and welcoming lady, who always presented a bright smile and was quick to chat.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nellie was predeceased by five sisters, Lillie Mae, Rose, Jennie, Martha and Edna and three brothers, Ernest, George and Ogden.
Survivors include her brother John Saddlemire and his wife Diane of Knox; her Goddaughter, Angela Valenti and her husband Bryan of Guilderland; several nieces and nephews, as well as many personal and close friends.
