Marion (Sonia) Clesner Taub
SARATOGA SPRINGS — Marion (Sonia) Clesner Taub of Fifth Avenue in Saratoga Springs, died peacefully at home on May 31, 2016. She was 88 years old.
Mrs. Taub was born on August 8, 1927, in Revere, MA, the daughter of Sarah Fidelman and Michael Clesner. She spent her early years in Lebanon, NH, where she was graduated from the local high school in 1945. She received her B. A. degree from Radcliffe College, Cambridge, MA, in 1949, and a Master’s degree in Library Service in 1951 from Columbia University. While taking classes there, she worked in the Chemistry Library at Columbia University, and after graduation, as a Children’s Librarian for the Brooklyn Public Library System.
In 1952, Mrs. Taub moved to Saratoga Springs with her husband, Dr. Lewis Taub, where he opened his office for the practice of Optometry and she was the Children’s Librarian in the Saratoga Springs Public Library. After an absence of some years, she returned to work in the Reference Department in the Public Library, and at the time of her retirement in 1982 was the Reference Librarian.
Mrs. Taub was a member of the American Library Association, the New York State Library Association, a member and former board member of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation, and a member of the Historical Society of Saratoga Springs. She served for six years on the Saratoga Springs Historic Review Commission, and was a member and chair of the Advisory Board of the Saratoga Springs Urban Cultural Park.
She is survived by her husband, Lewis; two sons, Dr. Michael Taub of Cabot, VT, and Eric Taub of New York City, and a daughter, Dr. Sarah Taub of Arlington, VA; and two granddaughters and two grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Mrs. Taub’s name to The Community Hospice, 295 Valley View Blvd., Rensselaer, NY 12144.
