Saratoga Springs, NY - Judith Wolcott Stasch, 74, died November 3, 2011, at Saratoga Care Nursing Home. She succumbed to chronic strokes after a long illness.
Judy was born September 4, 1937, in Elmira, NY, to J. Fred and Gladys Wolcott. She graduated from North Side High School in Corning, NY, in 1955. Judy graduated SUNY Geneseo in 1959 with a degree in teaching, and taught until she started her family with then husband, Harold W. Stasch. She was a devoted mother to her two children. Later in life, Judy pursued her master’s degree in teaching reading at Elmira College. She worked with extraordinary compassion for many years as a recreational therapy aid at the Elmira Psychiatric Center. Judy was an enthusiastic member of Common Time Choral Group in Elmira, NY, for several years. She doted on her grandchildren and loved children in general.
Judy is survived by her son, Michael Stasch of Bath, NY; daughter, Susan Stasch of Saratoga Springs, NY; grandchildren, Amanda Adams, Bryan Stasch, Daniel Mattison and Emily Mattison; sister, Joyce Miller of Vestel, NY; brother, J. David Wolcott of Bath, NY; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Saratoga Care Nursing Home for the care they have provided to Judy for the last several years.
A memorial service will be held at Centenary United Methodist Church in Bath, NY, Sunday, November 27, 2011, at 3 p.m.
