Saratoga Springs, NY – Landon McCord Moore, Jr., passed away unexpectedly Thursday, December 29, 2011.
Born February 21, 1952, in Saratoga Springs, he was a son of the late Landon McCord and Mary Frances (Thompson) Moore, Sr., and was a lifelong resident. A graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, he received his teaching degree in English from McKendree College in Lebanon, IL.
Dedicated to the youth of his community, he began a career of service as a camp counselor for the Saratoga Springs recreation department. At the age of 16, and under the tutelage of the late Bennie Fasulo, he coached the All Star Frogs in biddy basketball. He also continued his coaching career with the Pop Warner Football Program, Little League baseball, a women’s softball league, Skidmore College softball and Saratoga Catholic Central High School football and baseball. Appointed to the city’s first Rec Commission by former mayor Raymond Watkin, he received the “Outstanding Young Man” award in 1984 and was a recipient of the “Outstanding Athlete Volunteer Recognition” award in 2006. Landon was a lifelong member of Bethesda Episcopal Church and as a younger man had enjoyed regularly singing with the Bethesda Choir. Well known for his love of life and infectious laugh, he enjoyed many things, including the Jazz Festival, his Fourth of July parties and his annual Christmas parties at the Moore home.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Jeffery George and his father-in-law, George “Skip” Hartman.
He is survived by his wife, Amy L. (Hartman) Moore; children, Phoebe and Landon Moore, III; brother, Eskey Moore; sister, Deborah Moore; mother-in-law, Maureen Hartman; brothers-in-law, Marc (Shannon) Hartman and Jason Hartman; sisters-in-law, Lori (Sheila) Hartman and Lisa (Abe) Bates; and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2011, at Bethesda Episcopal Church, corner of Broadway at Washington streets, a funeral service will begin at 11. The Rite of Committal will be in the spring at the family plot in Greenridge Cemetery, Lincoln Ave., Saratoga Springs.
Amy, Phoebe and Landon III would like to thank the Saratoga Springs EMS, staff at Saratoga Hospital Emergency Department and, his primary physician, Dr. Christopher Hoy and office staff for their loving care over many years.
