Saratoga Springs, NY – Mary Daley, 93, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2012.
Born October 11, 1918, on her family’s horse farm in County Limerick, Ireland, she was the eldest child of the late Thomas and Catherine Ryan Keyes. In 1926 Mary’s family immigrated to the United States settling in Brooklyn, NY, where her uncle was a doctor. When she was 16, her mother died leaving Mary to raise her five siblings, a role she assumed with a maturity beyond her years.
Mary and her husband, Edward, married in 1938, spending 61 wonderful years together until Eddie’s passing in 1999. During their married life Mary and Eddie lived in Brooklyn, Flushing and Long Island developing dear and lifelong friendships. In later years they wintered in Florida and spent summers in Saratoga Springs to be near their daughter Pat, granddaughters and great-grandchildren. For the past 14 years Mary was a resident of the Embury Apartments.
Mary was involved in many civic and social activities. While living on Long Island she volunteered many hours at St. Charles Hospital and Little Flower Orphanage. She was devoted to her religion and was very active in the Catholic Church. Most recently Mary was a parishioner of St. Clement’s Church and served as a Eucharistic minister to the homebound and patients at Saratoga Hospital. She enjoyed playing bridge, participating in prayer group and, above all, spending time with her family and friends who she prayed for daily.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was predeceased by her son-in-law, Thomas Flanagan; granddaughter, Patricia; grandson, Patrick; brothers, Thomas, Edmund and Joseph; and sisters, Rita Brick and Theresa Thompson.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Flanagan; granddaughters, Mary (Rob) Gammon, Kathy (Ray) Bobbitt and Peggy (Rodney) Gray; great-grandchildren, Matthew (Stacey) Gammon, Ryan Bobbitt, Emma Bobbitt, Taylor Gray and Madison Gray; and many nieces and nephews.
