Welcome to Wolfe’s Fitness Tip of the Week. This week I deliver the Kettlebell Bent-Over Row.

If your right leg is forward, your left hand holds the bell. If your left leg is forward then your right hand holds the bell. While pivoting forward at the hips, keep a straight back until your torso becomes approximately parallel to the floor. Your free hand can post on a stable chair or table. Keep the hips square to the floor. Pull the kettlebell into the arm pit, keeping the elbow close the body, grazing the rib cage. Lower the bell to the bottom position but do not touch the floor. Repeat for sets. This exercise is simple and extremely effective if done properly . . . particularly for building strength in the posterior shoulder and back. If you want to address your mid to lower back area, pull the bell towards your waist area rather than the arm pit. This superb exercise is also great for waking up the wrists and forearms. Be mindful: though this exercise can be performed by just about anyone, I recommend light stretching before any physical exercise and/or consulting  your doctor before attempting any physical fitness activity.

Since childhood, David Wolfe was engaged with various sports such as baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, tennis, volleyball and track and field. Competitors were most of the time taller or bigger compared to his small body frame, so the David and Goliath storyline was a consistent theme he revisited in sports.

In high school, he wrestled and attended Dan Gable’s Wrestling Camp in Iowa. There he learned how the body could be conditioned with great strength and agility by tapping into the mental capacities of the mind. After getting certified in fitness and nutrition and graduating from SUNY New Paltz with a B.A. and Masters in Professional Studies in Humanistic/Multicultural Education, David saw the need to pass along to others what he has learned about the mind-body relationship. For over fifteen years he has helped a diverse population of individuals and groups work towards optimal health at a number of different fitness facilities and has designed unique boot camp classes as well as tailored one-on-one fitness and wellness programs.

Now 35 years old, with extensive knowledge of training styles and approaches in his training tool belt, David hopes to continue helping all people achieve optimal health in a meaningful way.
