Saratoga 250, America’s Turning Point Cannon:

A three-pound replica cannon will be prominently displayed near the paddock throughout the holiday weekend. This exact working replica of a 1777 Saratoga Campaign cannon will be part of the 250th commemoration of the “Henry Knox Noble Train of Artillery.”

Victory at Saratoga Samplings:

All weekend long, fans 21 and older can enjoy complimentary samplings of the Saratoga 250 signature summer cocktail, Victory at Saratoga, which features Freeman’s Farm at Saratoga Bourbon produced by War Cannon Spirits of Crown Point, NY. Available at the Saratoga 250 Tent by the paddock.

1776:

Saratoga’s Home Made Theater will perform a musical selection from the Tony Award-winning production “1776,” bringing the story of America’s founding to life through song.

Ma’alwyck Fife and Drum Corps and Historical Reenactors:

The Scotia-based Ma’alwyck Fife and Drum Corps will help transport guests back to the Revolutionary War era. The ensemble will feature percussionist Andrew Janack, who performs regularly with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, alongside flutist and fife player Dr. Yvonne Chavez Hansbrough. The musicians will be accompanied by historical reenactors in period attire roaming the grounds and interacting with fans.

Declaration of Independence Reading:

Following the 4th race, Town of Saratoga Historian and Vice Chair of the Saratoga 250 Commission, Sean Kelleher, will offer a reading of the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence.

Uncle Sam:

A beloved American icon whose roots are traced back to nearby Troy, NY, Uncle Sam will stroll the track grounds in celebration of Independence Day.

Complimentary pony rides, a petting zoo and opportunities for children to interact with friendly farm animals will be available free of charge in the Saratoga Family Zone.

Subourbon Life Samplings:

Saratoga Springs Fireworks:

Grand, Gilded and Glorious: A Saratoga Stroll

Saratoga Springs Heritage Area Visitor Center, 297 Broadway, Saratoga Springs | 10:30 a.m. – Noon. Friday and Saturdays in June. A guided walking tour celebrating the rich history, glamour, and legendary stories of Saratoga Springs’ Gilded Age. Guests will journey through historic Congress Park and downtown Saratoga Springs while hearing stories of millionaires, mineral springs, luxury hotels, socialites, scandals, and the colorful figures who shaped the Spa City’s golden era. Summer Ghost Tours

Fourth of July Concert & Citizenship Ceremony

Saratoga National Historical Park, Visitor Center, 648 NY 32, Stillwater | 10 a.m. Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by helping us welcome ten new citizens of the United States! The event will include a special musical program featuring members of the Racing City Chorus. We’ll wrap up the program with a reading of the Declaration of Independence. Summer Sunday Strolls Down in the Valley: Exploring the Gut

Meet: Historic Hathorn Spring, NW corner of Putnam and Spring Streets, Saratoga Springs | 10:30 a.m. Alexandra Morgan leads this walking tour of the area behind Broadway known as “The Gut,” which was home to many working-class and Jewish families who made important contributions to the community. Wander the same streets where grocers sold kosher meats beside oyster houses, where bathhouses promised cures for everything from insomnia to indigestion, and where summer boarders came seeking both mineral waters and a welcoming community. Tours require walking and standing on varied terrain. Tours are limited to thirty participants and tickets must be purchased in advance. The cost per tour is $15 for SSPF members and $20 for non-members. Saratoga Concert Series – Sly Fox and the Hustlers

War Memorial in Congress Park, Saratoga Springs | 7 p.m. Sly Fox and the Hustlers is a New York-based blues, rock, soul, and funk band formed in 2010, known for its powerful sound and electrifying live performances. Their music blends heavy voodoo blues with soulful, funky grooves, creating a high-energy show that keeps audiences coming back for more. In the event of rain, the concert will move to the covered back garden patio at the Heritage Area Visitor Center, located at 297 Broadway.

The Camp Saratoga 5K Trail Series

Using dipnets, you will get to search for a variety of aquatic animals while learning about their life cycles and adaptations. George III: America’s Last King

Reading of the Declaration of Independence

Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring Street, Schuylerville | 6 p.m. This event is part of a national simultaneous reading of the Declaration of Independence which will occur at the same moment across the nation’s ten time zones from here to the western Pacific to commemorate the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence, which was held on July 8, 1776, in front of the Philadelphia State House. The event, sponsored by the Old Saratoga Historical Association, will also include a presentation of colors, singing of patriotic songs led by Jodi Osborn and Chris Tucker, and 13 toasts, followed by ice cream served by the Saratoga County Dairy Ambassadors. Lions Club Honors Scholarship Winners

Six Saratoga Springs High School Seniors have been awarded at least $25,000 combined in Scholarships by the Saratoga Springs Lions Club. 

The seniors were awarded on June 9 at the Special Lions Dinner in Saratoga Springs. 

The winners are as follows: 

• Daniella Fleming, $7,500 academic scholarship

• Carina Schneider, Leos Club Member Scholarship

• Madison Finn, $2,500 academic scholarship

• Ava Otte, $2,500 academic scholarship

• Katherine Morrone, $5,000 academic scholarship

Dana Bush Appointed as Director of K-12 Humanities and Elementary Instruction

Dana Bush has been appointed as the Saratoga Springs City School District’s new Director of K-12 Humanities and Elementary Instruction starting on July 1st.  Mrs. Bush will replace Dr. Michele Whitley, who has accepted the position of Superintendent of Schools at the South Glens Falls Central School District. 

Mrs. Bush brings nearly two decades of experience in education and leadership within the Saratoga Springs City School District. Over the past 19 years, she has served the district in several roles, including reading specialist, principal of Dorothy Nolan Elementary School, and most recently, principal of Division Street Elementary School. 

“Dana brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, experience, and passion for education to her new district leadership role,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Patton said. “Her leadership and commitment will continue to support strong teaching and learning opportunities for students across the district.” 

Mrs. Bush earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from Providence College in 2000, a master’s degree in reading and literacy education from the University at Albany in 2002, and a certificate of advanced study in educational administration from SUNY Plattsburgh in 2014. 

Two Inducted into Saratoga Springs Hall of Distinction

The Saratoga Springs High School Hall of Distinction honored two outstanding individuals for their extraordinary professional accomplishments at the 2026 Hall of Distinction Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. 

The 2026 Annual Hall of Distinction inductees are Michael Arpey and Carol Godette. The Hall of Distinction was established to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of outstanding graduates of Saratoga Springs High School who have made exceptional contributions and excelled in their chosen fields. 

Michael Arpey

Michael Arpey, a member of the Saratoga Springs High School Class of 1981, served as class president throughout all four years of high school and received the prestigious Yaddo Award at graduation.

Arpey is a business leader, philanthropist, and longtime advocate for the arts whose career spans decades of international investment leadership and community engagement. A third-generation Saratogian, he has maintained deep personal and professional ties to Saratoga Springs throughout his life, combining global financial expertise with a longstanding commitment to cultural and charitable organizations in the region.

In 2026, Arpey was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), an organization that has played a significant role in his life since his youth. His connection to SPAC began during his college years, when he worked at the venue in several capacities, including managing the performers’ gate for five summers. He also spent summers selling programs during New York City Ballet performances, experiences that helped cultivate his lifelong appreciation for the performing arts.

Professionally, Arpey serves as President of Hunter Point Capital. Prior to joining the firm, he spent ten years at The Carlyle Group as Global Head of Investor Relations, where he built and led the organization’s investor relations operations worldwide. Under his leadership, Carlyle raised more than $200 billion in capital across multiple investment strategies and asset classes.

Before his tenure at Carlyle, Arpey spent a decade at Credit Suisse, where he was Founder and Co-Head of the Customized Fund Investment Group, the firm’s $27 billion private equity fund-of-funds business. Throughout his career, he has earned recognition for his expertise in investment management, capital formation, and strategic relationship development on a global scale.

Arpey earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Lawrence University and a Juris Doctor from Penn State Dickinson Law. He later served as a trustee of St. Lawrence University, continuing his commitment to education and institutional leadership.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Arpey and his wife, Stacie, have been active supporters of numerous nonprofit and cultural organizations in the Saratoga community. Their philanthropy has included support for Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the Franklin Community Center, and Yaddo, where Stacie Arpey serves on the board. Beginning in 2022, the couple became underwriting supporters of SPAC’s School of the Arts Summer Camp program, reflecting their shared dedication to arts education and community enrichment.

Arpey’s lifelong connection to Saratoga Springs, paired with his international business experience and passion for the arts, continues to shape his leadership and philanthropic work.

Carol Godette

Carol Godette, a 1973 Saratoga Springs High School honor graduate and lifelong Saratoga Springs resident, has dedicated her life to uncovering and sharing the stories and photographs that shape her community. Her passion for storytelling began as Editor-in-Chief of her high school yearbook and continues to guide her work today.

A proud SSHS alumna, Godette values the school’s role in her life and legacy. As a dedicated educator, she taught fifth grade at both Greenfield Elementary School and Lake Avenue Elementary School, inspiring generations of students. During her career, she contributed to numerous school initiatives, including Greenfield’s Author’s Day, and helped write the successful application that earned Greenfield recognition as a Blue Ribbon School.

In 1996, Carol and her husband Dave, through a twist of fate, became co-owners of the Saratoga Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop alongside Patrick Pipino. The experience blended her strong community connections with local entrepreneurship and reinforced her belief in the importance of independently owned small businesses in strengthening community identity and growth.

Godette’s fascination with neighborhood grocery stores inspired her retirement research into the cultural role of mom-and-pop markets in local life. Her work for Simply Saratoga magazine led to the creation of her popular “On This Spot” column, which explores the history behind familiar Saratoga Springs locations and highlights the unique stories connected to each place. Her series on the city’s neighborhood markets showcased how these stores brought communities together through shared experiences and conversations. The collection later became her book, On This Spot, Saratoga Springs.

In recognition of her contributions to preserving local history, Godette received the 2022 Saratoga County History Award. She currently serves on the board of the SoBro Conservancy and contributes to the newsletter team at Brookside Museum. She is also a sought-after presenter for local historical organizations and community programs, including the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation, Grant Cottage, and the Brown Bag Lunch Program at the Saratoga Springs Public Library.

Carol and Dave are the proud parents of two Saratoga Springs High School graduates, Brad (Class of 2002) and Kristy (Class of 2005), and grandparents to four future SSHS graduates: Bara and Davey Godette, and Zoe and Hazel Ventre. Inspired by her family and community, Godette continues her volunteer work and commitment to preserving Saratoga Springs history for future generations.

Community BBQ Fundraiser to Benefit the Emma Foundation and Wilton Wildlife

The Emma Foundation and Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park will host a community BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, July 11, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Town of Wilton’s Camp Saratoga. The event will offer community members an opportunity to enjoy a Saturday evening meal while supporting local education and outdoor recreation initiatives.

Tickets are $20 per person and include a choice of chicken or tofu, potato salad, vegetarian baked beans, coleslaw, cornbread, dessert, and select drinks for those dining in. Guests may pick up dinners to go or enjoy their meals under the pavilion at Camp Saratoga with a view of Delegan Pond. 

Proceeds from the BBQ will benefit the Emma Foundation’s awards to families in need through movement programs at the Waldorf Schools, the Spatial Dynamic Institute and the development of Wilton Wildlife’s Larry Gordon Outdoor Education Center at Camp Saratoga.

Wilton Wildlife Preserve & Park is transforming the former Boy Scout buildings and pathways at Camp Saratoga into the Larry Gordon Outdoor Education Center, honoring the memory of local community leader, Larry Gordon. 

Phase I of the project saw the renovation of the former Boy Scout Health Lodge into Wilton Wildlife’s Welcome Cabin. Phase II is now underway, with a new building being planned in the location of the former Winter Lodge. The new building will include a multipurpose classroom/meeting space and exhibits on the natural history and humans of the area, including many items from the Larry Gordon Historic Scouting Collection.

Tom Durkin Book Signing at Impressions of Saratoga

Join Impression of Saratoga in welcoming renowned retired New York Racing’s Track Announcer and local icon, Tom Durkin on Friday July 3 between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Durkin will be sharing stories of his life’s journey to becoming the voice of some of the greatest thoroughbred races in history and signing his new book, “A Life’s Calling: The Voice Behind the World’s Greatest Horse Races.”

Tom Durkin, alongside longtime turf writers Paul Volponi and Lenny Shulman, shares their stories. Saratoga County Department of Aging and Youth Services Announces Senior Farmers Market Coupons Distribution Schedule

The Saratoga County Department of Aging and Youth Services recently announced Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons are available to qualifying seniors. Coupons can be picked up at the Department of Aging and Youth Services at 152 West High Street in Ballston Spa from 9AM-5PM, Monday-Friday.

Coupon booklets include five $5 coupons ($25 value) that are good for fresh fruits and vegetables at local participating Farmers Market vendors.

The Department will also distribute its Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons to those who qualify at the following locations:

Qualifications for Farmers Market Coupons:

Qualified individuals are those who are aged 60 or older and earn a monthly income of no more than $2461.00 per month for a one-person household or no more than $3337.00 per month for a two-person household. One coupon booklet is available per eligible individual. No change can be given for any unused amount on a coupon.
