Letter to the Editor:
As it's another local election year, let's see what Ken Ivins is running for this time around. Two years ago he ran for Saratoga Springs Supervisor and was soundly defeated. Four years ago, as the incumbent Commissioner of Finance his aspirations of retaining his Council seat was thwarted at the polls by the current Commissioner Michele Madigan. He was so bad at putting together budgets, that he kept raising taxes, laid off 49 city employees, slashing expenses, and then finding out that he had more money than he knew what to do with. A true tax-but-don't-spend politician! He kept reaching into our pockets for more money, but then shrugged his shoulders and said "gee, what should I do with all this money?"
Our current Commissioner of Finance has refused to raise taxes, has set aside funds to get through sudden financial stresses and has shored up our finances that we are the envy of municipalities throughout the state and beyond.
I can't imagine any reason why I would want to replace our extremely effective Finance Commissioner, with the disastrously incompetent one that she fortunately defeated four years ago.
On November 3, vote Madigan for Finance!
