SARATOGA SPRINGS — On April 29, Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner (D-Round Lake) held the second annual Women of Distinction Awards at Skidmore College. The ceremony was held to honor women in the community who make a difference.
Stephanie Fortune, a junior at Academy of the Holy Names, was presented with the award in the Young Person category. “Volunteering is a way of bridging diverse groups of people together for a common good,” Fortune said.
Fortune is an Ambassador Girl Scout, a board member with Girl Scouts and an active member of the Young Women’s Leadership Initiative. She recently participated in a United Nations trip and will travel to Washington, D.C. in May.
During her winter break, Fortune traveled to Nicaragua with the North Country Mission of Hope to help build houses, work in an orphanage and assist with food distribution.
